I appreciate you doing the mods. I guess I always talk about my problems without solving them :p
We are alone in this game. I was chatting with someone in another forum about what was the best fabrics to use for a home theater. He said the best sound he ever heard was inside a room with berber carpet installed everywhere - even on the wall. Don't tell that to ScareDe2. I found samples of fabrics made with loops, I installed some inside both cups and I consider that one of the best modding avenue so far:

That's a nice find! I agree, stiffer/denser materials seems to get that peak down better than foams, which just muffle/color the midrange.

I bought these secondhand a couple of years ago. I have no idea what sort of pads they have- probably not the originals, given their age...

The cable is a Chinese aftermarket cable (ZY Cables). Unlike the Cardas connectors, these don’t fall out! The sockets seem slightly different to those of the HD600.

Now that I have a top-notch OTL amp, I dug them out of the drawer. What can I say: they remind me of my Beyerdynamic DT1990 Pro (my current favourite), only slightly less detailed, and closed.

Just ordered a Forza Audioworks copper cable for these. Should be an improvement on the Chinese aftermarket cable (which is OK, but not all that smooth or transparent- which is why I stopped using it on my HD600s).

Incidentally, I wonder if my pads might actually be original Sennheiser replacements. They look and feel like it...

This looks like a juicy setup! I never owned an expensive tube amp so can't relate...

It also looks you did something with the connectors? I had problems with HD600 connectors falling out easily. I thought about gluing them in place but decided not to ruin them, though admittedly it was frustrating to having to push them back in place every once in a while.

Anyone have a solution to the cable fit issue? Do I need to buy the vintage smaller connector cables?

When the new FAW cable arrives, I’ll try a little extra shrink sleeving (or possibly a small piece of double-sided adhesive tape).

The current cable uses cheap Chinese Sennheiser connectors, which are a little larger.

The more I listen to them, the more I see the HD250 as a „closed HD600“. I wish I’d discovered them earlier.
