Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

The 1840's sound so damn boring. Absolutely no fun to it. Much worse soundstage. And the bass distortion. Eurgh. That being said, they'd probably make excellent monitors, as it's so damn ruler-straight.

I sold my 840s for that same reason. I haven't heard the 1840s, admittedly. The 1540s are the only Shure over-ears that are worth the price, IMO. They're a much better IEM company.

I'm sure some guys out there would love the 1840's out there, hence its continued existence. But saying that it eclipses the HD700 is entirely a subjective opinion.

From what I have read. You are best to jump up to the HD800 or other flag ship headphones. No point in going from HD 600/650 to HD 700. There are many better choices in the HD 700's price range used or new.

I didn't find the HD 700's to be amazing for sound or price. I settled on a pair of Shure 1840's for $200. They sound much better than the HD 700's and compete with the HD 800 sound for a fraction of the Hd 700's price. I even preferred them to Beyerdynamic T1 Tesla.

Brand new head-fi account making bold claims and dissing HD700 out of nowhere. Yeah, not a troll or anything, especially with that username. Welcome to head-fi.

I didn't notice that at all, nice observation. It would be pretty schiity if a Shure employee would start an account and talk down other brands though.

Shure doesn't need to have this negativity associated with them. More likely a fan who loves their headphones.

i totally agree with you if your ultimate goal is talking about getting the most expensive production headphone in sennheiser. and that is the reason why we are seeing people are either commuting, or they drive a ferrrari, dont settle for less.

alright, just being ironic.

HD800 i am sure you at least need a $1000 amp or more to get started. to be safe you can get hdvd800 which is about 2000.

wait a minute, you driving it directly from iphone?

nevermind.

The reason I chose the 700 over the 800 was because it was more fun and more involving, plus it sounds awesome out of lesser sources and lower volumes giving it more versatility. I love the 800 and still want to grab one someday, but since I am not a big classic fan and want to listen to music vs. analyse equipment, its use is somewhat limited for me. However, for acoustic music and with the right source chain, the 800 is hard to beat.

I wasn't trying to troll. I just thought i'd throw the Shure 1840's in the mix in case anyone was on the fence. My experience is with 1840's and HD 800's. Going off what a bulk of the reviews say about the HD 700's.

HD700 became $400 as used. I would love to check this out.

SRH1840 beats HD650, T1 but not HD800.
SRH1840 has a very good sound stage, durability, light weight, comfort, cheap price but it's still a cavemen's headphone compared to HD800.

How would you compared HD700 to SRH1840? Are they similar?

Do you actually own the HD 700s? Cause from what i'm getting, you're just making baseless assumptions from reviews you've read.

in headfi i saw people keep talking about saving up to hd800.

in some other forum, i saw people advising do not touch hd800 unless you prepared to spend $1000 for dac and $1000 for amp and another $1000 for cable together with $1000 HD800.

it makes me wonder, are some people here buying HD800 for itunes spotify kind of portable music or simply because it is the most expensive and they have 1000 to spend so they spend all of it on hd800. Hmm.
