Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

So I got HD700 about 5 hours ago and didn't put them down from my head yet and have urge to share some of my initial impressions :)

I'am not some audio pro, but I had quite a few headphones already and now I guess my taste for sound is somehow screwed up :D because ... I love these since the first song I heard and damn I'am running them straight from pc soundcard without anything.

Not sure what's the main reason that these headphones got me that much, probably combination of fast, full of treble, forward sound, tight bass and great mids.

Have no idea why these cans got so terrible reputation and reviews, can't wait to hear them amped. Also read many times they suck with metal, well I don't think so. New album of Five Finger Death Punch - The Wrong Side Of Heaven is absolute blast on these ! Or Ex Deo - I, Caligvla ... just perfect.

Comfort - 11/10 - What more could somebody want, these are light fit me perfectly and I don't even know I'am wearing headphones in few minutes.

As for hot treble, maybe it is, maybe it isn't. It depends on taste in my opinion, but I like it. Oh and they are definitely not bass light :)

It looks like I got keeper.

I cannot agree with you more!

Having owned the HD 700 and now the 800 I do see where some of the criticism comes from.

I think Sennheiser priced the HD 700 too high at $999 - although that didn't stop me from buying them.  Their down-costing to $849 and then to $649 seems to address this issue.  From a sound perspective I do think they fit nicely between the 650 and 800.  From a materials cost perspective I think they are closer to the 650 than to the 800.  They're a huge step in the right direction in terms of connector improvement, ergonomics, comfort, looks and sound staging.  The big difference with the 800 (from a manufacturing perspective) is the ring transducers and aluminum frame.

I think they are just as treble hot as the HD 700 (or at least close- I haven't done a strict A/B comparison and besides my 700's were broken in and the 800's only have like 30 hours on them).

So long as the hot treble doesn't bother you, then they are a fantastic set of cans for $649

IMHO, The trebles are better on the HD800, though HD800 is brighter and the HD700 is smoother. The HD700s are step up from HD650s with better high extension and better details and clarity.

So far I have experienced that the HD700 likes tube smoothing so pairing with a good tube amp is necessary

It's confusing, because now there's two ratings for the hd800:
http://en.goldenears.net/index.php?mid=GR_Headphones&page=2&document_srl=22602
and
http://en.goldenears.net/4326
The cumulative spectral decay has been improved though .....

People are questioning the credibility of the ratings in the comments.

I think it’s simple. The old review was based on the competitors in 2011 and the new one is based on the competitors on 2013 with more accurate measurement tools (IMO).  So it makes sense if the reviewer's opinions on 2013 are stricter than 2011.  We have a same thing for cars, the best car in 2011 is not the best in 2013. We should always use the same year reviews for comparison.

I don't have the HRT Microstreamer, but the HD700 is fine with Audioquest DragonFly.

It's "fine" even straight from PC. I'am using it like this for nearly week already.
