I am enjoying these today with the foam out***. The mids are a bit more forward and the bass is sharper. I had been finding the bass a little muffled or soft. This is much better, for my tastes.
Yep, the S2 are fine as they are.....although for personal reasons I'm using perforated sheepskin pads.
As the Amiron are my 1st "recent" Beyerdynamic they're pretty smooth sailing and very balanced tonally across the board, the S2, while an improvement technically over its predecessors, is still a mid-centric phone and with its more convex presentation a compliment as I mentioned earlier to the Amiron Home.
It has been awhile so I shall have to pull the velours and get back. Originally I did not like the change but I’ve gotten use to them but can’t recall what it was.
Maybe one of the underrated aspects of the s2 (for me) is the treble clarity that is so smooth without ever being harsh. Coming from the 650 (warm and dark by nature), the 650 has a small peak around 3k that could make female vocals somewhat edgy. Revisiting those very albums this afternoon, I was delighted to enjoy them with no glare what so ever. FWIW those records are:
*Linda Ronstadt: What's New
*k.d. Lang: Hymn of the 49th Parallel
*Alison Krauss: Forget About It
Just received my new cable that I ordered from Norne Audio. They are the Drausk v2 (Lite) - 8-wire. I got one sleeve all black and the second sleeve black with with the copper highlights. I love the way it goes with my setup. Which is the HD660s2 paired with an excellent Amp/Dac, the JDS Element lll Mk2 Boosted to 2.6W,, It really pairs well with the headphones. Now with the new cable I can also enjoy how it all looks and the sounds... Lol
FYI, I stole the idea from someone here on the forum.
Ok…spent a good part of the afternoon swapping pads….for me the perforated leather add a bit of crispness, better defining the imaging…believe the bass is slightly tightened up and a touch more impactful…again not a huge departure. The less porous nature of the leather with the above observations makes the S2 into a slightly cooler sounding headphone, which I’ve now come to prefer over the warmer presentation of the stock velour pads. Personal preferences will dictate which works best, I’m sticking with the lambskin.

Thanks for the effort and feedback, it is greatly appreciated! I know that Dekoni has some FR graphs that shows differences between their leather, suede and velour Sennheiser replacement pads, but I tend to like user feedback as a better representation of sound differences. Have a good one...
