Speaking of pre-orders...looks like Amazon Canada adjusted the $637 Can price to reflect the US exchange...now $799.95 Can. : (

A lot of the HD800 (HD800S) sound are achieved through the ring driver and enclosure design. It is not as simple as "put that into the HD6__ series". If the question is one of finances, the HD800 (HD800S) can be found for a second hand or dealer discount easily. It is perhaps better to view the HD660S v1 and v2 as reiterating upon the existing HD580/HD600/HD650. Rather than the other way of how do we trickle the HD800 down to a lower product price point
No one said "put that into the HD6__series". Release an entirely new series. It doesn't matter. Some of those advances should filter down into a lower price point. This is how technology works over time.

Life's complicated with Sennheiser, if observations can be substantiated. The 660 received the HD700 driver, the HD58X with the HD600 body received a modified HD500 series driver, The HD630VB and Neuman NDH-20 received a modified HD58X driver..and the HD660S2 have a modified HD700/HD660 driver ????
Also the drivers in the HD660S2 currently in the wild for pre-reviews, is that the confirmed version for production? aaahhh!

When I take time to listen to music I put most things aside and need to be fully engaged and usually for no more than an album or 2, with the HD650 I can't count the times I've almost dosed off.

I imagine the pre fazor LCD-2 or LCD-2C would put you right to sleep. I love both for listening to ambient music at night.

I'm not playing games. I absolutely do not need your advice regarding computing purchases.
My mistake, poor assumption. I don’t play games either. Calm down though lmao. Still, for a workstation, you can get more real estate with multiple 2k monitors than a single 4k one for a fraction of the price which clearly is a factor as you can’t afford the headphones AND the monitor. Unless, of course, you’re doing video/photo editing and have a niche need. Of course 4k will scale better with 1080p content with that 4:1 ratio. Obviously, spend your money how you like.

I love it when pricing puts a hard lock on my wallet… I kept checking on the price ready to dive in at the 637 price … now I have a renewed sense of patience and will wait for reviews.

At this price, it’s cutting into used OG focal clear territory… and not too far off from used OG hd800…
I know there are other factors to account for like the legendary Sennheiser reliability and fantastic warranty service but this is really starting to get up there for and HD6 series headphone, I hope it delivers.

Cheers,

Funny you should say that, they did. But yes for ambient music they are phenomenal, I loved their wall of sound and base but sadly it was almost as if they lopped off the top of the treble.

To quote myself. : )
The Audeze while having wonderful base response lost it in the treble, literally, I was listening to John Surman's "Stranger than Fiction, and the drums were fabulous but there's this interplay with the cymbals that was supposed to come in and they were completely gone, just didn't happen, after that instead of chilling out with their immersive sound I couldn't get over that blaring omission. : (

Oof. I hope it isn't because Sennheiser reps in this thread saw the price you posted and messaged Canadian Amazon to correct the price.
It doesn't work like that...I mostly stay out of the price discussions. Here to talk product y'all :)

Hear hear. $950 AUD here 💀 and I've bought a used HD800 at $900 before.

Moreover locally a brand new Focal Clear OG is being sold at $999 dollarydoos ($700 USD); S2 has some big shoes to fill at this price. 100% prefer Senn's build quality/durability/reliability/warranty over focal, but that's still a price jump enough to remove all thoughts about pre-ordering.
Ouch!....and here I thought Canada got the sharp end of the stick on exchange and pricing.: (
Well the HD660S2 will just have to give Focal a run for their money. : )
