Wish I could keep it too! Wrapping up the CanJam suite now. HE 1 showed out of course but the HD 660S2 made a big splash. Big shoutout to everyone who put either set on their heads
No room to hookup my darkvoice right now but I dusted off my old Luxman-R115 and I’d forgotten how dynamics can really sing on these vintage (is 80s vintage now?) amps. The bass just roared like a monster in the dungeon and has that real old-school warm sound compared to the more metallic tinge I find in modern phones. That is what I love about the Sennheiser line is how versatile they are, I still liked it yesterday but on an old analog amp without all the modern digital processing it really gives Focal a run for its money in the dynamics department.
The S2 are still continuing to impress but now officially gone balanced on the Bryston BHA-1...make a difference?, who knows?...single ended the Bryston is already very competent but obviously now there is more gain and eliminates any chance of channel bleed ....
Also as I'm finding the treble on the S2 very good and makes my HD800S sound even more unnatural I have gone ahead and applied some very simple known mods for reeling in some upper harmonics, tissue and paper towel.
On the 800 I have placed 2 small discs between the removable mesh and the driver and it does make the HD800S slightly warmer and a little more intimate, less ethereal, probably somewhat similar to the Neumann NDH30 that have been recently touted about. Obviously YMMV.
Well that is totally up to you..and that is the fun part, super cheap mod but opens up all finds of possibilities, single, double, sizing, holes...etc..etc..it's really more filtering, redirecting than absorption, for that wool would need to be applied but that's more for managing the lower frequencies and bass.
On the Neumann NDH 30 (aka Sennheiser) that has received very high praise they've applied a similar covering to the driver, more tissue like than paper towel....
But maybe all that's needed for some, as high frequencies are usually the most contentious and easy to modify. Manufacturers can't please all the listeners all of the time but decisions have to be made to get production on the way, there will always be compromises.

Thanks for the link, I've seen those mods...totally different philosophy..."Sound should be handled as acoustically as possible, without the use of physical filters such as foam or paper, etc."
"Remove everything that gets in the way of the sound. If additional structures are required in place for integrity issues, design it so that it helps the sound, as a waveguide." https://www.jupiteraudioresearch.com/c37b2515-3909-42aa-ab9f-aa16a06b85fe
Finally I got my HD660S2 delivered. I tried them first at my workplace with xDSD Gryphon (4.4mm balanced) and compared them to my HD660S. S2 was better but I still felt a bit disappointed. There was increase in treble presence and mid bass but especially sub bass quality was not there.
Later today I tried HD660S, HD660S2 and HD800S with my HDV820. Just Wow! I was not expecting how good these S2 sound and how much they scale. And the sub bass... it is there and sounds really good. No need to EQ with these. Too early to make any comparison but I have a feeling that these are not going anywhere in many many years. I will give 660S to my son.

AKG were once the mainstay in my headphone roster so will have to rely on memory, overall I can say IMHO the new S2 are all-round a better phone and not by a bit, way more dynamic, quicker, more tonally correct and sound stage much more 3 dimensional. Where as the K712 and most of 700 series are at arms length and relatively 2 dimensional, the Sennheiser starts off sounding intimate but the layering and depth is quite uncanny and has been catching be off guard but in a really good way.
In general I'm trying to get a sense of how the overall sound relates to the cans I know and love - I've got a pair of HD650 that have made it from not long after their introduction 'til today with some minor refurbishment along the way, love their sound. Love the HD660S
The HD660S2 as I previously mentioned are not the the HD650, but if you like the 660S the new S2 is quite the feat, the overall sound being bigger, deeper and more tonally correct...I guess I can safely say it now but the HD660S2 is really really good, worth the asking price if not more...I really encourage 600 and 650 owners looking for that possible upgrade to give them a listen, no they are not warm and syrupy, just something that is really correct about them and can't be ignored.
