I have never been so impressed by any headphone, including the D7000, Pro 2900, Pro 900, Q701, DT880, 990, HE-4, ESW9, Pro 2900, among so many others. The newer HE400 with velours comes so close to perfection, that I don't find it missing pretty much ANYTHING. It's enjoyable with everything, and I can't find any actual faults in it's sound quality. With all the other headphones, there was always one or two things I had nitpicks with. Not so with the HE400.

now this I can respect for an opinion.   I just might have to try a pair    thanks.

I'd gladly pay $600 for them if they went that high, and I'd normally never would go that high on any headphone, except the D7000.

Yea, that's fine. It's not that I'm not wowed by the HE-400, I just personally own headphones that are better. Now when I said he'd be far better of with an HE-500, I ment it.
I guess we just have different thoughts when it comes to value. I'd at least listen to the HE-500 first before you write it off. And again I never said everyone would be FAR BETTER off with the HE-500. My comments were to the OP, but thanks.

All any of us can do is offer our experiences and our opinions, I did just that. I'd urge you to listen to the gear instead of regurgitating what you've heard on Head-Fi.

I own the HD 650, the HE-500 and the HE-400. I would take the HE-400 if I had to pick one. No regurgitation here......just opinion.

Let's regurgitate some more.

I can accept that fearless. Once you've actually heard x can, speak about them freely. MLE, stop acting like a HF noob, please, seriously. Or don't.
But like you said we're all fanboys of something, or something, I guess.

Relax there, guy. I'm joking, if the smiley wasn't an indicator. Head-fi has been quite elitist of late. can't even manage a smiley without having someone bitching.

Chill pills are needed, apparently. Let me go regurgitate some for you.

Looking from pictures/videos, the packaging for the HE400 looks terrible compared to the HD650

, makes the HE400 look so cheap in presentation.

For true music lover sound quality is important not packaging. Anyone can put most crappiest product in very nice box but it still will sound like crap

The Beats have some VERY nice packaging for its price; even has a built-in booklet into the case, you should get it.

Also, $1500 Grados are delivered in crummy pizza boxes, what a ripoff!

I miss the amazing case the Hifimans came in. I think they got rid of it to save some money, and focus on the headphones themselves. They wouldn't be the first and last company to do that.

I own both the HD650s and the HE-400s, and I actually prefer the HD650s over the HE-400s. I think it really depends on what you're looking for in a headphone. If you want rich, deep, sound then the HD650s is the way to go. If you want clarity, neutrality and a larger soundstage, then the HE-400s is your best bet.

I'd also like to point out that both of these headphones aren't very "quick" and engaging, so if you're looking for something for a genre like death metal then these headphones just about suck

Is that the new revised HE400 with velours? Because I disagree IF indeed you're doing the optimal HE400 setup that we at the HE400 are doing. The HE400 is the definition of all-rounder with velours.

I'd agree with you if you're using the stock pleather, and not the hifiman velours.

HE-400 should have a deeper sound to it, its bass isn't as rolled off as the HD650.

Both headphones are very quick, too.  Their waterfall plots are very clean compared to most other headphones on the market.
