That E9 can only deliver 9.2 mW at 300 Ohms, it can't compare to the E12 or E09K.

I thought it would be more the E6 is 16mW at 300 ohms

9.2 mW at 300 Ohms for free is better than nothing, right? I plan on getting a good amp soon.

I get acceptable sound from my Nexus 7 and that's prob putting out much less than the E9. So I'm sure E9 is more than fine.

I've got an E11 and it's barely got enough juice to drive it on max volume. If your going portable I would suggest an Amp/DAC rather than just an amp like the E12 since most mobiles have sub-par DACs too. I own the TEAC HA-P50 and in my opinion it completely outclasses the offerings from Fiio.

If your not really going portable though, go with a desktop amp/dac. You will get the best bang for your buck that way. I spent about the same on my TEAC UD-H01 DAC and it blows my HA-P50 out of the water. Be aware when shopping around that many DAC's are not advertised as being Amp/DAC combos because they don't have a traditional passive speaker amp like home theater receivers. However, several of them do have headphone amps. In many cases they are missing the power specifications on the amps though, or they are misleading (very low). In my experience they have plenty of power, above and beyond my most powerful portable (HA-P50) which is actually rated higher in most cases. Best thing is to give them a try when you find a good deal, there's alot of hidden gems out there.

Ugh, what I didn't want to hear. I got my hd 600 yestetday and while I have plenty of home amp I have an E11 (original not k ) on the way cause I got it for $50. Thought it would work for mobile

It will be fine at reasonable safe levels. My E12 volume knob is less than 1/3 up and it more than loud enough for me If you want unsafe ear damaging levels that's another story.

It's not loudness I reckon - it's refinement or something like that.

For sure better equipment will sound better. You don't need to make ears bleed to enjoy music.

I have started regularly checking spl now when listening.  I have tinnitus and I don't want it to get worse.  To my surprise I'm usually floating in the mid 70db range.  Protect your ears people.  The cleaner and less distorted your music becomes the easier it is to exceed safe limits.  I meter my speaker system too.

People don't realize how easy it is to cause damage.

+1 - as much as you love your music you undoubtedly love your hearing more. I have some High frequency loss from lots of loud music and unprotected noise environments as a youth - not noticeable to me but measurable by the audiologist. I found out during an Army flight Physical when I was younger and I have been cognizant of hearing safety/conservation since
