Loved the HD600 --- paired to the BottleHead Crack + Speedball, it offered an amazing sound.  I upgraded to an HD800 because the 600 felt a little tight on my head after awhile, but as a secondary pair of headphones, it is amazing when paired with the right amp (tube etc.).

edit - gone already. but i wouldn't buy it at MSRP, it hits $260 new every few months.

Yes. That's what I paid for a new one 2 years ago. Some better prices now but I'm glad I didn't miss the last 2 years of listening.

Yep, I also paid up years ago and I wouldn't want to miss all the good listening times that I've had waiting for the better prices more recently available.

I only got mine a few months ago and I've relished every moment. Got mine for a bit more than $250 and it's turned out to be quite the bargain. I woulda been happy even if I paid closer to the MSRP, but like many others have said, you can get a good deal under $300 if you're patient. In fact, there are many pairs that are like new on eBay for under $300. Same with in the the buy/sell/trade forums here on Head-Fi.

I'd say an amp like the Mjolnir (balanced output stage) offers some very significant advantages over the single-ended solid state amps that I've heard. But at the end of the day it comes down to topology rather than connectors.

I think I will, too. My time with the Klipsch X7i IEMs taught me how much I appreciate a neutral response. And "laid back" sounds just like me. So these ought to suit my tastes well.
