Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

About amps, the best cheap amp for the HD600s are the Schiit Vali IMO. The Modi Vali stack is hard to beat for these cans at this price. Heck the Vali is just plain great with the hd6xx series regardless of price :D

This! 600 & Vali is crazy good, a tad wanting in the sub-bass but the magical midrange more than makes for it. Any decent budget DAC like Modi, Fiio E07K or Dragonfly will do with this combo.

hey guys. I need replacement pads for HD600.
Is it OK to buy replacement earpads off ebay?
I know these are not original, but 3x cheaper (30$), does anyone know if there is difference?
Any experience someone?

I've never tried those particular pads, but I'd be wary of any 3rd party pads.  Earpads can play a huge part in how a headphone sounds, so there's no guarantee your HD600 will sound 'right' with those pads.

How much better is the Vali+HD600 than the Magni+HD600? I'd like to get the Vali for my HD600, but I fear it won't work for some of my lower impedance cans (ATH-M50, MDR-V6), so I'm contemplating going with the Magni to play it safe, but how much will I be missing out on compared to the Vali+HD600?

I've heard many talking about how great and "eargasmic" the HD 600's sounds with the Schiit Vali. One even said he had sleep deprivations because of it. I mean the Schiit Vali is a hybrid meaning there are actually little tubes inside so you will get a pretty decent warm and fluid sound without sacrificing the highs too much. The HD 600's aren't that forgiving at times anyways (depends what music style). I would think it would be amazing with the HD 600's
I recommend a try

So totally off topic, don't pay attention to me, but I just listened to this song and I dunno if it's the HD600s, the mixing done by the artist, or a mix of the two, but sound effects like what you'll hear at around 0:27 were a bit startling for me. I thought they were coming from my kitchen (which is down the hall to my left in my apartment)!

Put it this way, I compared the magni to the o2 and preferred the o2 overall for my senn hd518. The o2 may also be a little better than the vali for the m50 but since the m50 isnt going to improve or change as much as the hd600s, I would prioritize those first and get the Vali... or get a ragnarok and forget about worrying if something will sound good or not out of them hehehe

If you still have the old pads you could buy hm5 velourpads (20$) and glue those on the plastic part of your old pads. This way you would save more money and get pads that are known for good quality.

Just got my HD600s. They didn't come with a 1/4 to mini adapter. What's up with that? Both my HD650s and HD598s came with one....

The cord on the HD600s is about twice as thin as the HD650s.

The sound harsh out of the box. Burning them in as we speak. Very curious how they'll compare with the HD650s. :D

Puzzling - they come standard with an adapter. Look in the box again? [Edit: the other posts are correct, it is 1/8 to 1/4, not the other way around]. Also, in my subjective experience, they come standard with excellent sound, not harsh at all, out if the box.

Fiio E10K vs Xonar STX vs Xonar DX+Fiio E11K?

had STX, sold it due to occasional hum issue (dont know if it was faulty card or more probably drivers)
had DX also, it had high pitch noise occasionally (VERY disturbing, every time I thought I am gonna get heart attack or PC would explode)

(changed whole PC so it isnt that)

Anyway, I am on a budget (VALI looks super nice, but EU price is almost double), and will most likely upgrade in the future.
Also, would just DX be enough?
Xonar Phoebus maybe?

THAT IS EXACTLY MY EXPERIENCE. THEY SOUND VERY BRIGHT AND SPARKLY, THIN AND DISGUSTING TO MY EARS.

Burning them in I promise will make them sound fuller, and less bright and harsh. IME the sound staging got a lot wider and sound became a lot looser when burning them in.
Just leave you music in relatively high volumes when not using them. Play a lot of lower frequencies to loosen up the drivers.

I found this handy for my burn-in's: http://mynoise.net/NoiseMachines/whiteNoiseGenerator.php
