Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread

I'm going to see if there are any audio stores in my area that carry the Sennheiser HD 600. I want to demo those headphones. I know a place that has the HD 650s for audition, but those aren't the ones I want.

Go check out the HD650, they're not all that tremendously different. It will give you a close approximation of the sound. :) I have owned both at the same time and found them to be more similar than different. It is like more like comparing gunpowder green tea to gyokuro green tea, not green tea to black tea. 0_0 You can get a great comparison of the sound by searching the forums or even reading this thread. They are one of the two most talked about cans on here.

Yes, give HD650 a chance. You might be surprised...

A shop near me offered to sell me the hd650 at the hd600 price (since they didn't have the 600). So maybe you can get a deal.
Agree that the 2 models are family - different but closely related to each other.

That depends on personal preference. I compared the 600 and 650 in person on the same amp, etc. for 45 minutes. I came in wanting the 650's and left with the 600's. It was not an easy choice.
I also compared the 700's and did not like them, that part of my comparison was short.
I would've liked the 800's but they were over my budget. I could've stretched for the 700's but as I said, I didn't care for them.

Yeah, I'm not saying one is better than another.

What didn't you like about the 700's? Based on 2 brief auditionings I liked them very much, but didn't have a chance to directly compare to the 6x0's.

I'm with stan here.  I found the 700 completely unbalanced.  definitely not superior to the 600, or the 650 imho.  I had really high hopes for it as well.

Interesting, thanks. When I last heard them I was auditioning good portables (Momentum, B&W p7, PSB m4u2) which were all good, but the 700 was much superior. Better be, at twice the price! But I was not comparing them to their competitive peers.

There was just one thing that I didn't care for, To me the treble was excessive and would be fatiguing. On the other hand I found the HD650 a tad short on treble and the HD600 somewhere in between and pleased me the most. Given a choice between the 650's and the 700's, I'd go with the 650's. That doesn't mean that my preferences apply to others, we each have our own thing.

Yeah, the knock on the 700's seems to be the treble spikes.  I tend to run away, fast, from excessive or harsh treble, so i'm not naturally inclined towards those fones.  But I'm still attracted, based on my two short auditions.  I want to listen to them further.  They were also very lightweight and comfortable, which influenced me I'm sure.

Im happy as a clam w/ my 600's, though, they are Goldilocks, just right for me.

I'm the same.  Really enjoy the HD700 - different presentation to the HD600 - but in a good way.  Absolutely no regrets buying them.
