My HD600 is only confined to my home setup, they're too bulky to be used outdoors.

That's why I'm asking Obviously there's a good reason for in-ears to exist. So maybe some in-ear from Sennheiser would be a good HD600 equivalent?

Something like IE8xx series comes to my mind? With the price, IE800 looks more like HD800 equivalent..

For some strange reason. Having produced reference full size headphones Sennheiser have then gone on to produce some very coloured bass heavy IEM's IMHO.

I wouldn't say that.  I've got IE80's and HD600's.  They certainly don't sound alike, but my take is they're just targeted to different markets and/or tastes.  As far as I'm concerned, Sennheiser can certainly be excused for making headphones and/or IEMs that aren't sonicly neutral, just because they've made a name for the neutrality of their flagship products.  For sure, the IE80s aren't reference IEMs...I'd NEVER use them to do any mastering.  But for the type of music I like for general listening (rock, jam, electronic, funk) I actually enjoy the IE80s quite a bit more than the HD600.  That said, I'm in the same boat as an earlier poster that mentioned that his HD600s stay at home and he doesn't do as much listening at home.  Anyway, I have no trouble recommending my Sennheiser IEMs as providing a quality listening experience, but you gotta know they provide a very non-neutral sound.

Dammit, man! Someone tell me what I said that was so funny! I see the HD 600 as a warm can that may be the best bang for the buck ever. The SE215 is a warm IEM that is an enormous value. Did I miss something.

I enjoyed the se215's for over 2 years.  About 2 months ago I bought my HD600's.  I agree that they are both great value's, but the se215 are a great value $100 IEM and the HD600 are great value $350 open back headphones.  So, I can't really put the se215 in the same league, sound-wise, as the HD600.  To me, the HD600 is audiophile quality gear, the se215 is a nice sounding $100 product that probably sounds better than $100 worth, but to me doesn't approach audiophile sound quality (whatever that means).
 
That said, I also recently picked up a pair of IE80's and those are a definite step increase in sound quality from the se215.  While the sound flavor of the ie80's is very different from the hd600 (though I feel the se215 also sound different) without getting into detailed comps of each, I do feel the sound experience in general terms of sound quality of these two products is comparable.

Yeah roguegeek, I find that SE215 is very far from the HD600 in terms of sound quality especially when it comes to lows (too accentuated) and highs (too subdued). It's bigger brother SE535 is much closer but still not in the same ball park as the HD600. I personally haven't tried the SE846 but maybe that might be closer to the HD600 signature. Can someone who's tried the SE846 confirm that? I think for an IEM to equal the sound of the HD600, you have to pay a lot more

I'm not saying quality of the sonics are to be compared. I don't even think you can compare any IEM vs open cans simply because of the nature of the devices. I'm saying the signatures are relatively the same and you get a lot for the price.

I get it now roguegeek, you were pointing out the cheapest option with a warm sound. In that case Hifiman RE400 is closer but honestly they're still very far away sonically from the HD600. Honestly nothing in this price range is going to equal the HD600...maybe in another 10 years?
