Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread
Jan 6, 2014 at 8:10 AM Post #5,686 of 23,454
Hi - I have a pair of HD580s that i've had for several years and the headstrap (i.e. the plastic band on top of yer head) has finally broken. The plastic has cracked in 2 right at the top.

I realise this is a 600 appreciation thread - but I'd be really grateful if anyone has advice about replacement/repair for its close, older cousin the 580....
I'm in Sydney by the way.
cheers!

You can either order HD580 or HD600 / HD650 parts. Hope that helps, as they aren't too cheap.

Some interesting trends are starting to appear in the results of the HD600 vs HD650 poll:

http://www.head-fi.org/t/698372/the-ultimate-hd600-vs-hd650-poll

If we get 15-20 more votes we should be able to say something more definitive, so please vote if you've compared both headphones using a similar setup and haven't voted yet.

I think that the poll already showed what I expected .....

20 people either think the HD650 is better or prefer it between the two
21 people either think the HD600 is better or prefer it between the two
4 can't decide

Ultimately it depends on a persons preference

They're both great cans and if what you have makes your ears happy, you're a winner.

As of today I've gone from an admirer to an owner. I can already say that these phones are lovely. They sound great out of a Meizu MX and though a FiiO E17. Now I just need a proper DAC/amp.

They're not that hard to drive so you don't have to get carried away with killer amps. They are more sensitive than the HD650's.

So something along the lines of these will do?

  1. JDS Labs O2 + ODAC ($280)
  2. Schiit Magni ($100)
  3. Schiit Modi ($100)
  4. Schiit Vali ($120)
  5. Schiit Loki ($150)
  6. Aune T1 24bit DAC/Amp ($160)
  7. Aune X1 Mk2 DAC/Amp ($210)
  8. Audio-GD NFB 15.32 external DAC/Amp ($255)
  9. Audio-GD NFB 11.32 external DAC/Amp ($340)
  10. Yulong DAH-1 mk2 (unavailable?)

Any preferences among these for the 600?

I happen to like Schiit. Are you planning to use a cellphone as your source? If so the choice of DAC can be tricky.

My HD600 headband cracked but I was within warranty so Sennheiser just gave me a new pair of HD600s haha. But seeing as you have an HD580 you won't have warranty. I looked into buying the headband part for my HD600s before Sennheiser replaced them and they are just so expensive, particularly in Aus. http://service.syntec.com.au/product_info.php?cPath=1919&products_id=80679 link to official Sennheiser HD650 headband part. $190.28!! Outrageous
I'm in Adelaide btw
