Can any one recommend me short cable for HD600 which would be an upgrade?

Agreed. I personally use the one you've linked from Amazon/eBay. It's a good cable.

How mobile does it need to be?

You're using the Microstreamer, so I imagine this is for portable use? Look into the FiiO E12

You'd have to spend significantly more to do better than the FiiO E12. Read the reviews. It's said to be an excellent amp.

The E12A is for IEMs. The regular E12 is what you'd want for the HD600.

Between the E12 and the Cayin C5, you can't go wrong.

I'll be using them with my laptop btw. Is the E12 very clear but without any additional harshness?

i had the e12 for a day. it was immediately thinner and harsher sounding than my now sold geekout 720. i returned it the next day. i didn't burn it in though

Going full-size desktop amp will sound nicer than any portable device.
