Glue them together with Loctite superglue.  Or you can buy new ones from Sennheiser for $45 + shipping or something like that.  They should replace them for you, though, if they are under warranty, I would think?

Bought them around 2014. Not under warranty anymore. may try to superglue but I'm using the leatherette pads now.

Of course, no one has chimed in on how those compare to the originals, which aren't run of the mill pads to begin with.

Quick review as follows (I am a DJ and listen mostly to house and techno).

1. Bass is pronounced but is tight.  Has enough rumble to mimic club sound.  This is important as a DJ.  I find that it replicates the club floor sound better than any other headphone I have tried.
2. Treble is a bit muted and this is a GOOD thing for a DJ headphone.  It's also good for when I'm putting together mixes at home because I have to do so at loud volumes and therefore fatigue is a factor.  The reduced treble makes it much safer and better for long term listening at the volumes that I require.  But, at the same time, the bass can be fatiguing in a different way during extended casual listening --- say on a multi-hour plane ride listening to non-club music.
3. SQ is also very detailed for a DJ headphone. The most detailed I've heard on a pair of DJ headphones.  Blows away the Pioneer 2000's.
4. The rotating cups are a bit too tight to use.  I got a big head.  While trying to swivel the cups, it tends to almost pull the headband off my head.  That is unfortunate so I don't use the rotating cups.
5. Soundstage is good for a DJ headphone.  Better than the HD25's.
6. Isolation is extremely strong, again, another great thing for a DJ.  There is minimal if any sound leakage.
7. Prioprietary headphone wire is annoying.  It's also way too long for casual toting around.  You can get a pair of 1.2M wires on Amazon for about $15.

I wouldn't recommend this headphone for anyone who is NOT into club dance music of some sort (hip hop, EDM, techno, etc).  Vocalist tracks will have the vocals slightly go into the background due to the bass.

So in the end, if you're a DJ or produce music that a DJ will play in loud club settings, these are the right headphones for you.  If you are someone who is a basshead and nothing more, then there are better options especially if you don't want the treble roll off and the vocals to take a slight back seat.

Lastly, the foldable design is excellent for packing in a bag as well as the build quality.  These are very nicely built headphones.

My velour pads just broke today even though I don't use these all that much. The glue that keeps them together unsealed and now the foam inside is protruding.

Exactly the same issue for me with the velour pads. Fortunately I'm still under warranty so I ordered a replacement pair.
You could try sewing them together. It should work fine seeing how it's just cloth anyways.

The more I listen to the HD8 the more I like them.

Currently got them from a friend to test and if I can get them to clamp a bit less I might buy them from him over the Fidelio X2 and DT770 to be my second pair of cans next to the HD598

Anyone here using the HD8 with Equalizer APO?

I'm currently trying the combination of a bit less bass and a bit more treble and for now it sounds amazing.

Made them sooo much better for me to use with music and gaming :)

After more than a year in the closet, I've tried on my HD6 in the last couple of days.

I like them for having a full size, over the ear design but being quite compact. Also their isolation and sturdiness make them ideal travel headphones. But there is also one big problem: the sound. Too much hard-hitting bass, too less highs. Like listening through pillows. Like a lot of people I'm disappointed that they don't sound like better Hd25. In parts, they actually succeed. They have better instrument separation, better soundstage. But I'm not sure what Sennheiser thought when choosing that sound signature. (I have a old sennheiser from the 90ies. HD490. They are an open on-ear design and also have that pillows sound)

So I did something that I usually don't do. Using an Equalizer. Looking at innerfidelities graph, I only did some simple adjustment without trying to change the sound dramatically. Bass Region up to 100Hz with centre at 50Hz was lowered by 3 dB. From 2k to 5k highs were raised by 3dB, staying there for the upper region.

Now they actually sound quite good. Still not neutral, but a very relaxing sound signature that is in line with the typical Sennheiser sound that can be found in consumer models like PX100, IE80, HD558, momentum,...

Probably I will keep them (I don't think you will get lots of money for them after all).
