need help fellas, i noticed while playing modern warfare on pc that when i turn the volume knob my screen blinks black.
i can see the volume bar on the top left and that seems to be the reason why. For the most part putting my game in window mode seems to work, so this only happens in full screen mode.
Is this normal?

I don't understand. The windows 10 update took out the virtual 7.1 option from the spatial sound menu, not from the configure speakers menu.

How do you get to the configure speakers menu? I cannot access anything in the Sound Settings that allows me to select 7.1. I will post screenshots to show you what I mean.

@mindbomb Here is what I see. I cannot find any way of selecting 7.1 sound. Only this Windows Sonic for Headphones. So how do we select 7.1 sound for GSX in the new Win10? Much appreciated.

control panel>sound>click on gsx main audio, then click on configure

You were never supposed to be using the spatial sound settings.

So I just got the GSX to escape the usually regarded as bad Creative software...and surprise.. the GSX update cannot even connect to download the firmware and I just read I am not the only one. Seriously...
Mine says it has 5.23.37.0.844...is that the latest by any chance or where can I download the files to update this manually?
Thanks

for those of you, who wondered what's inside - I've just disassembled mine, here are the guts:

hey @Fred_com and all, i've just ordered a GSX 1000 which has a broken usb port. could you please describe what steps you took to disassemble it? are there screws hiding behind the label / rubber pad on the bottom of the unit?

i'd like to get it apart to resolder/replace the usb connector but leave the rest of it intact :)

thanks!

@Fred_com helpfully let me know that there were 4 screws underneath the pad and sticker in the back. see photo.

the unit i bought "for parts or not working" indeed had a broken usb port. looks like shoddy soldering is the main culprit. additionally a plastic standoff/mount was cracked - i imagine it was overtightened at the factory.

reflowing with some flux and a bit of solder carried on the tip fixed it. i added some to the ground lugs as well, to hopefully increase the mechanical strength.

pro tip: if you've already fixed the port, don't make a second pass with the iron to clean up a couple joints and bridge pins on the usb port in the process. that was *not* fun to fix. i ended up finally getting it cleared by jamming a bit of wick underneath, melting some of the plastic on the usb port in the process. somehow i managed not to lift pads and destroy it completely.

gave it a go with some test files at https://www2.iis.fraunhofer.de/AAC/multichannel.html - pretty cool!

Hello All,

I own the GSX-1000 and am starting to rethink my purchase. My understanding is that the only way you can get 7.1 DSP to activate is to set Windows to 16 bit, 48000 Hz (DVD Quality). Wont changing this setting from 24 bit / 192khz or higher down to 16bit / 48.1k compress the sound of the games audio?

Another way to ask, what bitrate are most game audio produced with these days?

If games are produced with high-res audio(higher than 16bit/48.1k) are there other options that do not sacrifice high-res audio and still emulate 7.1 surround?

Thanks!
