Seiun player, $150 player with monster spec. Too good to be true?

Nov 10, 2015 at 8:18 AM Post #31 of 1,652
Now is the question of what to ask for what we want.
Acting as a transport cable /wifi ect
Amp spec
Funtions of cloud local or web based
Media server

Anyone want to add to the list. Just in case I/WE can't get to the web chat on IRC.
We can post or pick up here.

Cheers
Dave

Think it would be good to know some of the "real world" basics as well as the things like DAC chipset being used etc:

Expected real world battery life (FLAC/MP3/video files)?
What 8-core processor are they using - Mediatek/Snapdragon etc?
Does the Pro X use a different octa-core processor to the Pro (to shift the extra screen pixels/native DSD feature) or does it use the same processor, in which case the Pro would surely have better battery life?
Is it designed primarily for IEM or higher impedance cans?

Basically, where are they pitching this against the likely competition in the same price bracket like the Fiio X1, Sony NWZ-A15 etc? At this sort of price, it's surely more about what they manage to squeeze out of the components than the actual hardware itself so will be interested to see where they see the final players sitting in the DAP world once they go into retail.

Would log in to the IRC but it will be about 3am UK time so look forward to finding out what they say on here tomorrow...

The chat is still going on, but TLDR version so far is:

CPU is Rockchip 8 Core 3368, DAC chip is upgraded to the 9018C2Q, there will be a questionnaire on color options soon, they are testing to see if they're gonna use the inbuilt C2Q amp chip or a separate one, and are settling on a 3.5mm jack/line out combo which is software switchable.

Media dock will have an integrated 2TB HD, feature HDMI-out, SPDIF out, Line out + USB OTG

Home Office dock, will have usb otg, HDMI, (optional HDD), SPDIF, Lineout, bluetooth phone, stereo speaker and 40watt speaker.

Battery performance is 4 hourse for music playback AND 4K video. Expected to last longer if audio only. But Cyberdrive did state their software engineers will look into extending it.

Hope that covers it.

Thanks for the Recap! Me and Thomas had a blast connecting with all of you!

Once we confirm a time for next week's chat we'll post it up here, on our FB, IGG and Twitter!

Let us know if you have any questions!

CPU is Rockchip 8 Core 3368

28nm, 8 core 1.5GHz.

From a prev. review I dug up: It supports Android 5.1 Lollipop and it’s supposed to support 4K, 60 Hz video decoding… but the latter doesn’t actually seem to work properly.

So far, all the products that I've found which use the 3368 are Android Lollipop set top media boxes.

Well, actually, I really want to know how much power can this DAP pump out...
Even if it incorporates all the goodies they claim they will be putting in it,
if it doesn't have the proper output impedance and enough power to drive multi-BA IEMs properly,
its going to be pretty worthless...

But then again, if they do manage to do it at such a low cost,
it would be great for all of us music lovers!

Media boxes are supposed to handle massive input loads created by extremely large movie files with all the complex audio codecs. Im pretty sure itll handle one FLAC or DSD song at a time just fine.

Like i stated during the Q&A, as long you dont download all the funny funny apps or large games and max everything out it should be fine. Ill probably download 4-5 streaming apps and 3-4 control apps for devices and that's about it. The 3368+2GB RAM should run along fine.

The inbuilt 49mw output by the 9018Q2C chip is a concern, thats why i wanted to know:
1. Will it be paired with a proper amp chip like the TPA6120A2 for example.
2. If there is a line out option to pair it with vastly more powerful external amplfoers.

Sorry for a noob question. I have the OPPO ha1 what is the best way to connect this player up. ATM I am using a FIIO X3II using coax/ line out. Any advice would be gratefully received...

Anyone one on the tester Program here seems ashame if not.. ? ?

For audio I get little over 8 hours on my fiio x3ii. 4 hours solid on my Sammy s5 streaming video wouldn't happen..

Lollipop had some big increases in battery life, Marsh mellow could add some more. Android can be tweaked and firmware updates.
If your out and about without the ability to charge, a booster cost a few Pounds these days.

SQ first, can it run my FLAREs, built in streamer, media centre.

I was going to make my remix mini android PC as a transport. Now with this a handy server.

I am not on the hype train with this player but at less than £100 and cheap earphones as spares. I don't expect much but I wouldn't be suprised if it's half decent..

I was going to try the Uptone regen and

a Jitter Bug.

DAR did a review...btw.
Computer audiophile as well..

Wife and Wallet permitting.. I will see after I get the MR SP Ether...

Interesting additions. The ESS chip may not drive some headphones as it has the Amp incorporated with limited power but some additional products may add some flexibility at home..

#8. A lot of you have expressed interest in learning about our future plans and technology. SEIUN Pro and Pro X will be a part of the Ecosystem products. If we receive more contribution from our BACKERS to make campaign even more successful, than we’ll be able to develop the items in our stretch goal much faster. We plan to provide a MEDIA DOCKING STATION to extend the use of SEIUN to Home Theater environments and to increase audio and video Storage Capacities. We plan to provide the OFFICE DOCKING STATION with will turn the Seiun Players into an Internet Phonethat enable the SEIUN Pro & Pro X to be used in HOME/OFFICE environments to reduce your phone cost while extending the functions of quality audio and video to your desktop setups. We plan to create a HOME AUDIO AMP to improve your home audio quality, from a 5.1 or 7.1 sound amplifier system. There are many more things we can accomplish in the future with your support.

After all, SEIUN Pro and Pro X is not just a single device; It is the beginning of a full featured ecosystem. We are certain that you will never regret backing this campaign (or even backing multiple Pro and Pro X products). As a team, we are hoping to demonstrate all the parts that SEIUN can play in a family. Thank you again for all your support, opinions and effort to help us with all that we have accomplished this far. I hope you can become a part of CYBERDRIVE family even after this campaign. We’d like to build CYBERDRIVE family Hi-Res forum to chat with you at all time. Our goal is to ENJOY
