Schiit Yggdrasil Impressions thread

Do remember that those post were made more than 2 years ago, decrapifiier were commonly used, and before the Schiit gen5 usb was implemented.

so..eh.. who knows.
I still have a strong suspicion that a high-end USB-SPDIF bridge will give better result. Or a source delivering directly to SPDIF into the Yggdrasil.
My Gen 5 USB cards for Yggdrasil have arrived, but not been able to pick them up yet. I really hope Gen 5 USB will be on the same level. Nothing would make me more happy than selling all the pricy equipment needed to get good quality from computer via USB.

In the meantime I ordered the Yggy and guess what? There is a "few weeks delay" due to parts supply issues...

Back to the USB/SPIDF issue, I believe that most of the difference is due to the galvanic isolation of the SPIDF which cuts out a lot of the crop picked up by the computer.
But I'm only guessing...

Up until the Gen-5 upgrade to USB, the AES input was clearly superior.
I am using the AES feed from my dialed in AOIP setup.

Now, while I'm still letting the Gen-5 board 'settle in', the USB feed is nearly the equal of the AES.
And the gap between them has closed up even further since I made my first evaluation after being on for ≈ 6hrs.
But I need to give it yet more time before I make a 'final' evaluation.

I still say you're going to be surprised! Schiit Gen 5 is right up there with my Mutec USB, perhaps even a little better.
- Which is saying a LOT when I'm comparing a $100.00 USD upgrade vs. $1,000.00 USD converter.

I still use the Mutec for Optical duty, but for USB it's Gen 5 all the way...

What is the ethernet to AES setup that you are using to compare it to?

I was referring to the Gen 5 USB vs USB/SPDIF bridge.

What kind of XLR cable to connect your Yggy to your amp?

Not sure who your question is directed to but my system is single ended(RCA). I make my own ICs and speaker cables using Duelund wire.

It was directed to whoever owns the Yggy and uses a balanced connection to the the amp,
It is your choice to use single ended and not balanced? Or is it your amp?

I'm using a modded pair of Shunyata anaconda xlr cables.
