@jonathan c. What headphones do you enjoy with the Valhalla 2? The majority of my 'phones are pretty efficient, so I wonder if this amp would be worthwhile for me.

• Focal Clear, Audeze LCD-X, Kennerton Gjallarhorn JM Edition, Grados … all reasonably efficient and all with nominal impedances from 20 ohms (LCD-X) to 55 ohms (Clear).
• If you go for Valhalla 2, I can give you some tube recommendations. [Also, you might want adapters / socket savers to raise all four tubes in Valhalla 2: the amplifier body will definitely stay cooler - still warm, mind you.]

Thank you! Do you find it very "tubey"? I have read in the past that it was pretty neutral, but I suppose that depends on the tubes involved.
What do you think of your ZMF's on it?

• With Valhalla 2, the practical tube rolling choices for the power (rear) tubes are limited to 6N6P. Stick with ‘gold grid’ Foton and ‘gold grid’ Novosibirsk. That means the input (front) tubes can dial back / rev up the Valhalla 2’s tube-y-ness. For example, Siemens E88CC for less, RCA 6922 for more: very generally speaking.
• The dynamic ZMFs sound very good with Valhalla 2. They sound, to me, their best with medium / high output impedance OTLs such as Woo WA2, Woo WA3.
"For sale, a Schiit Valhalla 2 headphone amp/preamp with 4 pairs of tubes: 4 stock tubes, 2 Russian Voskhod “rocket” 6N1P tubes, and 2 pairs of vintage matched 6DJ8/ECC88 Amperex tubes.
After acquiring the Valhalla 2 in January of this year, I purchased two pairs of matched Amperex 1960’s tubes: Amperex ‘white print’ and ‘Bugle Boy’ Holland from a reputable local tube dealer for some tube rolling. They improved the detail and clarity, soundstage, and overall performance. They all measured strong and I have barely used them since acquiring them. They should have loads of life left in them."
