I'm really enjoying the Vahalla 2. I have around 80 hours on the stock tubes and I have no problem with them. I use an Audiolab transport and MMB2 or MMB1. I do have a pair of the J J 6922 tubes coming. The Gold LIon is my favorite new production 12ax7 tube so I'll eventually have to get a pair of those too.

The Gold Lion 12ax7 has a really full, rich sound. Smooth treble. I prefer them over my old Telefunkens, Mullards, and Bugle Boys. They kind of remind me of the RCA black plates from the 50's.

I don't intend to get any of my 12ax7 tubes near my Vahalla. I used to own a Fisher 500C and Fisher X-100-C. I currently have a Harman Kardon A500 integrated tube amp.
I was just making the point that the Gold Lion 12ax7 is my favorite new production tube and I plan on trying the Gold Lion 6922 tubes out. But first I have the J J 6922 tubes on the way. A lot of good comments on those on the Vahalla tube rolling thread.

Yeah and I believe 12AU7 would be even lower at 20. The 12AT7's have been working great for me... volume knob usually won't be any higher than 12 o'clock!
Unfortunately headphones give me headaches (not apparently from clamping pressure) and I can't stand IEMS. This leaves me with earbuds, although very, very good ones. The ones I like most tend to be low impedance (16-45 ohms), although they have high sensitivity (105-115 db). Would the Valhalla 2 drive them satisfactorily? TIA
I've had a matched pair of Amperex orange globes in my Vahalla 2 for a few days now and these things are fantastic. I had a pair of JJ 6922s delivered a few days before the orange showed up and they are good but I'll stick with the Amperex tubes.

Hmmm have you tried open back headphones? I find my Grado GS1000i pretty comfortable and it floats... But if I use the Beyerdynamic DT770 for longer sessions, I can feel the difference, so yeah, I don't think it's from the clamping pressure either.
The Valhalla 2 should be ok. It's seems to be quite quiet... Well, I don't have any super sensitive IEMs/headphones myself... I use Final Audio B1 and Etymotic EVO along with the headphones... but even with high gain they are super quiet.
