Schiit Ragnarok Amplifier

Geek Out 450 (FRM filter, new firmware) > Leckerton UHA 6S MKII. Try it out. Under $500 and I actually prefer that combo to the Hugo for UERM and HD800 use. In your shoes I'd sell the Hugo, get the Yggy and a modest transportable setup.

The Leck will be hard to get here in the UK. It's hard being on HF sometimes as lots of top gear is U.S. only and costs a fortune to import :¬)

The Hugo will be returned (30 refund window), and the Yggy will be bought when available. Until then the M2U will plug the DAC hole.

I just hope the LCD 3F or X attracts me more than the Abyss. Quite a difference in price!

This post make me think your observations are one of "oscillating synergy" from your components settling in from being introduced together...
like a bouncing ball coming to rest...
With the tension/stress between the components balancing out...
snip

That is a good analogy.
The one I came up with is that of a moiré pattern coming back into synchronization with itself.

And when it is perfectly aligned all you see is the 1 pattern (signal), sharply defined.
But when the 2 identicle patterns are out of alignment (rotated), then the original pattern as presented is altered (I call it being 'out of focus') and in 'extreme' cases the original pattern (signal) is mangled or has both added complexity (distortion by-products) as well as subtractive (masked sonic nuances) that don't really exist in the original pattern (signal).

And to take this one step further, the pattern itself changes, in real time, since it IS the musical signal itself.

General consensus is that it is amazing and everyone should buy it.

Seriously though, I haven't read anyone say a negative thing about it yet.

They will.... once they notice the power switch is on the back.....

Already happened in the Schiit Happened thread, someone was saying that it was a deal breaker, even after Jason explained the very logical reasons for it.

They just need to realize that there is a reason this company likes it in the rear - of the unit.  LOL

And if that's the worse they can say about this amp - that's pretty good.

I love it when all people can find is cosmetic issues to complain about - even though I'd prefer to have the power switch in front from a utilitarian perspective. When I get mine, I'll probably just leave it on all the time like I do my Asgard 2.

It a SS Amp, it should be left on all the time....

Do people turn off (other than huge kilowatt monoblocks) their SS equipment ?

I'll turn off my refrigerator (as there's only food in that) before I'll turn of my Audio equipment !!!

I always turn off my Rag and everything else at the end of the day. It's all connected to a isobar, so it's easy enough to do and saves power.

Hmmm.... I may have to think about this amp , but I have an important question ?

Is the Lyr even in the same "Universe" as this "Headphone Amp"? (I was completely "underwhelmed" by the original Lyr ; I thought it might've worked as a "Sonic Bandaid" for those w/ less detailed systems, but that's not what I was looking for, so I "moved on")

It might work well with my "modded" HD800 hps which along w/ my Metrum Hex DAC sound "very respectable" through my Burson
Soloist hp amp. After going back & forth & redoing the "Anax 2" mod. several times (& fussing over small details), I am really happy w/ the Senn's . I'm a bit pissed that I just retubed an amp w/ RCA black plate 3mica 5751's ( which sound pretty nice) but I put the Burson back in line & "preferred it". (I'm still kicking myself)

I guess the "natural competition" for the Rag would be the Bryston BHA -1 & the Auralic Taurus . How does it stack up against these amps ? (The Soloist actually isn't sounding like it's typical "Neutral" self; so I'm in no rush)

I have everything connected to an Equitech 1.5 Q Balanced Audio Transformer (which is in turn "piggybacked" into a Promethean
Power Flo). I actually do turn off my headphone amp,( but prefer to leave the rest turned on)

"Different horses for different courses" I guess. (My "system" is not that big, however !)

Hey,

Does it actually matter if we use single ended or balanced with the rag?

I read somewhere that its inherently balanced and therefore there is no need.

Would like a reply from jason or someone with the technical know how =)

The consensus from everyone I've seen who had tried both is that there is a not insubstantial difference, with balanced being the way to go.

I leave everything on except for amplifiers (headphone or power). Would they sound better if I didn't? Don't know. Not going to have that debate. Would it extend the component lifetime ifI didn't? Who knows, not going to lose my mind over that either. But, one thing is for certain: They draw a lot of power and throw off a lot of heat. That tends to make them either very wasteful or very attractive to a cat, depending, so that's reason enough for me.

Comparing the HD 800 with balanced and single-ended outputs there's a subtle difference, but I prefer balanced. I couldn't tell you why, but I do. That's a personal preference, so don't take it too seriously.
