I have to agree with what you are saying, the Mani is a "Killer" Phonostage that punches way above it's weight.
I was using my Furutec ADL-GT40 as a Phonostage for my Rega RP6 and I was quite happy with it, but the soundstage was compressed and there was sibilance in the female voices. Plus on looking back now the mids and highs just weren't right. At the time I was happy with it though, apart from the female voices and the soundstage, plus I couldn't get this separation of individual artists on the stage? Or the "artist floating three dimensionally in front of me".
Then I purchased the Schiit Mani and WOW!
Suddenly I knew what the hi-fi reviewers had been talking about when describing speakers or amps or whatever. I heard things on my LP's I had never heard before. On some Jazz records the artists in the band were talking to each other and the Mani was able to pick this up. When I heard this for the first time it "spooked" me out. I thought someone was in my house!
Female voices are now incredible, no sibilance, it is as if Diana Krall or Eva Cassidy are there singing to me, incredible. The midrange and treble are so clear and high now, they are not shrill or edgy, just crystal clear. The bass, oh the bass, so taught, not bloomy or over done, just right. Cymbals, Drums, Vibraphone, Trumpet Sax, Piano, Kettle Drum, Flute Triangle, human voice any instrument, you name it, it sounds wonderful.
As I have said earlier my friend has a Sutherland PHD Phonostage and this Mani can hold its head up high against it.
Throw away the crappy wall wart and add a Swagman Labs Filtered Power Supply Unit and you would have to spend a serious amount of cash to try and come close to getting anywhere near the performance of this little giant killer.
I am very glad I took the plunge and purchased my Schiit Mani Phonostage, it was the best $129.00 I have ever spent on my system and definitely the biggest bang for my buck.
Highly Recommended.
