Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

My new Vidar 2F and Saga 2 arrived today. I think this is the first shipment split between Fedex and USPS that arrived to the shipping wasteland on schedule.

The integrated will go back to closet. Midgard will go back to office desk. Modius will stay for a few weeks pending Mimir purchase.

Out the gate, while the integrated is a little jewel IMHO, there is really no comparison to the SAGA 2 / Vidar combo. It's rocking right now.

I put this together to play with streaming. I am using the little Wiim Pro via COAX. I have ordered a second Wiim Pro to go on the main system.

The fun begins this weekend. I am going to do some network changes. My local library (main system) is on a Mac mini that also serves FLACs to the Wiim(s) via Samba. I am using only the Samba share source and Qobuz on the Wiim. I want to do some deep diving on the streaming network relationship. I have a new managed switch coming that will let me do some protocol analysis (mirrored port + sniffer) I also have a very nice network inspector that will let me measure performance especially around jitter.

I am curious. I have had zero issues streaming with the exception of non-gapless playback from FLAC to Wiim. I am want to look at those packets!

This isn't my photo but mine look almost identical to these crossovers I put in my old SVS Ultra bookshelves. Made a HUGE difference.

On the little system Kef Meta Q1. I must say the Vidar is owning them big time. This setup is physically wrong. Tv in the center and all that interference. Damn it sounds good. Very surprised at the low frequency response of the Q1s.

Very nice. Are those GR Research Tube Connectors on the inputs?
Yes, but only because they had the panels for the Maggies that fit/use those as a kit. But there's a reason I didn't post a picture of that end... With the nice, clean panel replacements, the connectors are too deep to fit inside the Maggies and stick out. Also, the holes for the connectors was/are way too tight to easily insert them in the first plac.

edit: Oh, and the replacement backplates are also thicker than the originals so I still have my Magnarisers sitting in a box wondering if they'll ever get switched out since those are taller than the original legs and overlap the panel. 😕

I have quite the collection of highly regarded 12A/U7 family tubes from my VH2 days and it was quite the difference over stock tubes. Fortunately I have a Freya N so they are still bringing me great pleasure.

I can only imagine what they would sound like on VH3. 😒
You could send them to me and I would be happy to let you know which sound best on the Valhalla 3. :beerchug:

Oh dear. You shouldn’t have said what type of tube that can go in it. I have stash of NOS RCA (and others) 12AU7 clear tops that sound wonderful in the Freya N and another little headphone amp. But I’ll hold off for now. My mother just got word that she has a place in a nursing home close to her home. I’ll find out tomorrow when she moves and I’ll drive straight to Canada’s east coast to get her settled. After that, I’ll circumvent the household boycott of goods originating from my southern neighbor and acquire a Mimir to go with the Midgard and Lokius (both black). Some impressions of it and comparisons to another DAC on the Mimir Impressions forum tipped me over the edge.

You'll need an adapter of course, but yes they will work nicely. Same adapter as Freya N and only fit the front tubes. The rear pair of tubes (6N6P) have virtually no compatible tube.

My next project. A recap of my Martin Logan crossovers...! After this, no more discussions of modifications of equipment, as I truly do not wish to offend anyone...! 😇

Tinkerers will tinker. If i were proficient in soldering I think id go crazy tinkering. With the talk of soldering and desoldering equipment lately (oh yeah, I’ve been checking it out) and having a stash of unused Schiit I’m getting close.

I'll give you another unpopular opinion...

My ears don't lie to my brain!

Neither do mine. Fortunately our ears and brain are not exactly the same leaving room for personal preferences.

I certainly have plenty of great 12AU7’s, I might try that one day.🤪

On the Folkvangr, I replaced all the 6n6p's with TungSol 5687's (adapted) and that thing sung like a bird!

But, the Folkvangr had the extra heater current to handle it. I'm still not sure about Valhalla 3
