Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Multiplier and High gain are on.

I have yet to roll tubes on the Valhalla 3, so all stock at the moment.

It seems to happen with my planar headphones once I go past 50% volume attenuation.
That's how I'm using mine; high gain, impedance multiplier on, with DCA Noires. But I never get above, like, 40% volume, so…

I might try reseating the tubes later, maybe they are not making full contact.

Edit: Well Horizon Open is 15 ohms and 88db Sensitivity, so it needs a little more volume than the DCA Noires.

Skoll F is one of Schiit's very best price-to-performance components. Mani 2 is a great little preamp, but Skoll swims in much deeper waters and has an absolutely black background for a phono preamp.
Love my Skoll to pieces. I haven’t used a ton of phono stages, but of the ones I have Skoll is in fact the best, and no doubt goes toe to toe with $1k stages.

Ok, I'll throw this request out:

Moved into a new (to us) house, and it has a bar in the basement. I've always been a beer (and some vodka) guy before getting into bourbon a few years ago. I'm a dummy on the rest. So here is the ask:

What is your pick for me to stock for one bottle of each liquor type, in the $20-100 range for each? Only caveat besides bourbon is Absinthe, I have that covered 😜
I am hopelessly behind the current posts, but my favorite single malt is Ardbeg Corryvreckan. Price has gone up since that little event a few years ago, but I can usually find it in the $85 range (although some stores have it over $100). It is very peaty, and quite strong, bottled around 57% ABV. I absolutely love it, but I would never recommend it if someone simply wants to have a "representative" bottle of Scotch in their cabinet.

Listening to the Italo Disco playlist from Qobuz and this came up. I can't remember a worse case of attempting "fake it till you make it" 🤣

Gosh, I sincerely hope you meant to write "chef's kiss" because your post is taking a seriously awkward turn otherwise… 😬
       Oh man, thanks for that. I do like Thomas Dolby's skills as a producer but not that well. Message has been updated to the correct phrase. Ugh, I just made another pot of coffee. My brain's not yet probably caffeinated.

That's a beautiful beast of a table!
Hopefully it will be even better with a new plinth, the original arm uses a different connection pattern for bayonet head shells so I may pull that arm and add two Micro-Seikis. I am still in the planning stages.😉

Hmmmm. I had music cut-out a few times over the last 2 days with my DCA AFC's but thought it was a Roon/Tidal issue or a network issue as I did make some changes there. Music would cut out for like 10 seconds or so and then come back in w/ player progress would keep advancing. This would happen after a copule of hours of listening. No other network systems (TV Roku, wife's work computer, etc.) were impacted, so...

* Listening at High Gain
* Impedance multiplier is on
* Volume is at approx. 10:30
* OG AFC is 14 Ohms and 93dB sensitivity

I reversed the network changes and will monitor the sitch to see if things are any better. I may use my Tubemonger socket savers to raise all tubes a bit if it continues.

Yeah it happened to me when I was approaching 2 hours or so of listening. I might try my socket savers as well if it crops up again, let me know how that goes.

Now that I think about it, I vaguely recall hearing a 'click' when the music restarted. At first I thought it was BF2 reacquiring the stream. And I haven't had a cut-out issue with streaming Roon to my 2-channel rig. That should pretty much rule out Roon, Tidal, and my network. More investigation is required.

** Used my standard Hudson HiFi silicone feet between BF2 and VH3 stacked. Maybe I should explore feet that provide a bit more space between them. Last night VH3 was 117f and BF2 was registering 109f. Don't get me wrong, I'm tickled a tube amp handle play 14 Ohm cans well. That's bordering on abuse for most amps.

Maybe it's time to look into AC Infinity cooling fans.
I use 'em and they're super quiet.

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've done a video. With all the new products (and new capabilities) (and new plans) recently announced, I figured it was time to do another.

So here you go. Feel free to ask whatever you'd like about:
  • Mimir
  • Valhalla 3
  • Gungnir 2's upcoming Forkbeard update that adds digital preamp and EQ
  • Byggy, coming in August
  • The verticalization plans I've mentioned
  • Anything else you're curious about
As usual, I'll answer everything I can.

Please send questions to evan@schiit.com

Yeah. I've been blowing over the stack for the last 30 minutes and I'm getting a bit light-headed.
