I love filling my hard drives with great affordable music and so I offer this high-value collection from Qobuz of superbly performed and recorded music by pianist Ivan Moravec. 4 discs of Mozart, Haydn, Janáček, and Chopin. Oh, and a wee piece of Debussy.

All for $20. Gotta love that!

In today’s Schiit update: I’ve moved Mimir up to my office today, temporarily functionally replacing Sys and Modi.

THIS is excellent, the Paradigms, while quite good speakers, are fundamentally much more limited than the big rig downstairs. I’m finding the ability of Loudness and PEQ to really come into their own in this setup (where I sit quite nearfield to the speakers on their stands, flanking my desktop at about 1 meter distance.

Mimir kills Modi in every regard that I can discern (and not discern) in this setup (Sony DVD “transport” to Minir to Superphon to Speaks… Loudness at 75% and digital volume at -28.1dB gives me approx 70-75dBA listening levels, but the *life* and bass/treble are more like listening at 85dBA levels; best of both worlds.

Next I will try going from the computer to it via USBC to see how that works.

I have now established that Mimir will have a permanent home. Time to start thinking in earnest of my “big DAC” story/situation: upgrade Yggy A1/OG to Yggy+ in one of the “flavors” there, with no FB… or upgrade to Yggy+ and FB with Singular, or… hmmm… take a left turn on the Gumby lane and sell Yggy? Much to ponder. Much.

But the digital Pre features in THIS system are quite noteworthy. I had to use much higher Mimir gain (-11dB) in order to not start getting what I (convinced myself anyways) heard as some loss of resolution - and at that level, Loudness was more limited/capped. I’m clearly going to have to conduct a LOT more experimentation in the main system, including a true A/B between Yggy and Mimir, but with Mimir’s digital volume set below 0dB and with NO pEQ nor loudness, so as to best determine precise point at which I can hear the fall off in resolution, without being distracted. I also wonder if perhaps this test should be through my Koss ESP’s as they are extremely transparent at low levels.

Anyone else yet experimented to find out exactly what levels can be used before the inevitable resolution loss becomes troubling? And, is this different with headphones than with 2 speakers?

I can’t be the only one pondering these things.

@sixergixer His 1991 2-CD collection of Chopin's Nocturnes is my absolute favorite rendition of those. Thanks for the rec!

Thank you! I just brought it up (in Amazon Music Unlimited) and am playing it now via my Denon HEOS setup. This will be my listening session for the rest of the evening. Huzzah!

ORT
Verrrrry nice. 😊

Everything Schiit does is interesting to me, particularly of late.

What I really would like to know is what possible upgrades could look like for Bifrost 2/64.

Was that regular Modi or Modi Multibit?

So, a couple of years ago, I asked this community which I should upgrade, my Modi 3e to MB2 or add Mani 2 in place of the onboard phono stage in my integrated tube amp.

I ended up going with the Mani 2 (and added the MB2 later), but on a flight today, thinking deep thoughts, I was struck by how much more vinyl we listen to since we added the Mani 2. Those ratios are closer to 60-40 vinyl to streaming now, and we play vinyl just about everyday we’re home.

What a great piece of kit for the price of a dinner for two at a crappy chain restaurant (with a couple drinks).

The upgrade bug is biting me hard right now, I recently got a nearly free, substantial speaker upgrade, and it’s probably a good thing that uncertain medical expenses (we’re fine, mostly) are holding me back, but now I’m pondering, Bifrost or Skoll, (and I know there’s a price variance there), when and if I have the cash to do it…

But man, shout out to @Jason Stoddard and the Schiit team for giving me access to products that I can afford and that have brought me some serious pleasure and that help me understand the difference between want and need.
The Skoll is a great piece of kit. Mine replaced an aging Cambridge Audio 551p phono stage that I thought was generally "fine". I'm still sussing out exactly how the Skoll is better, but it is definitely better.

It is awesome how Schiit brings us excellence at excellent prices. 😁

I put a Lokius in my stack and don't have to worry about any of that.

Hey all,

It's been a while since I've done a video. With all the new products (and new capabilities) (and new plans) recently announced, I figured it was time to do another.

So here you go. Feel free to ask whatever you'd like about:
  • Mimir
  • Valhalla 3
  • Gungnir 2's upcoming Forkbeard update that adds digital preamp and EQ
  • Byggy, coming in August
  • The verticalization plans I've mentioned
  • Anything else you're curious about
As usual, I'll answer everything I can.

Please send questions to evan@schiit.com

You could at least change clothes every few days. Just sayin'. 🤣
Different jeans, shirt and and socks. These are my goto comfy shoes so they are ones I wear a lot. I have a different set of shoes for working in the yard, etc., and another for going on walks. Not gonna provide status of the FOLs, however. :smirk:
