Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

In the UK Vintage has a strict definition. IIRC 50 years and Veteran is 75? I may have the years a touch adrift, but you get the gist.
Even in the UK it can be different for various things. As an example for cars (automobiles) the current normal definition is:

Cars built before 31 December 1904 are categorised as Veteran. An identical car built in January 1905 would not therefore be referred to as Veteran but, in common with other cars built between 1 January 1905 and 31 December 1918, would usually be referred to as Edwardian. Cars built between 1 January 1919 and 31 December 1930 are classified as Vintage. (Definition from National Motor Museum.)
I believe that the definition for vintage cars used to be ’older than x years’ but was then changed to a fixed date as way too many additional vehicles were being classified as vintage.

Regards, Nigel

I'm always looking for cheap and cheerful gear to try alongside my Schiit stuff. Has anybody here had experience with any of these:

Small amps by davidflas, on Flickr
I haven't any experience with what's shown. However I have experience with very similar gear. I Have 3 Douk tube buffered mono amps(stereo and sub) along with my Schiit stuff as they provide major space and weight savings in our Class B and also our travel trailer a tube buffered stereo amp for the same reason.

No problems after 35,000 miles and counting!

Sorry ORT, no meters on mine!:)

In the "B" an original Modi Multi-Bit is mounted underneath the table, thinking about the new one!

For long term stays in the trailer. The little amp is below behind the headphones.

Most people in my audio group prefer tubes as well but it is hard to say how many picked up on that during a blind listen, that would be another comparison down the road.
Once again I used the same test music my group uses, scored each DAC and then put on Beethoven's 9th symphony as well as other selections I knew well and just could not get past the great tube output stage. I would not be unhappy owning any of the final five DACS and they were not very far apart. In this round the OG Yggy + came in third. I did not want to open up the Doge to change tubes since it belonged to someone else. I had permission on the PrimaLuna. I started with tube audio when I was 13 and this makes a great final system for me.
Would you be willing to average the scores of "all tube items" versus "all non-tube"? Or plot a graph of "score versus cost?" It would interest many, but I realize it could lead to a lot of discussion, maybe too much.

I best take this to PM and talk to you there. I only saw the final five DACS, the rest I would have to research a bit. I asked for a few including two Schiit DACS to be in the mix and they were.

…think of the additional considerations to validate the effort 😱. In the ‘tube’ results, in the ‘non-tube’ results: autocollinearity; in a graphical / numerical analysis of ‘score vs cost’: statistical significance of the standard error of the correlation residual…🤔😳🫣🤣🤣

I knew some of the folks on the production side who flat said the stylus was a bad idea, oftentimes decisions were made in Cherry Hill New Jersey and people in other plants had little say so.
I grew up in Cherry Hill

I used to think highly of you.

I just checked and there were six tube dacs within the 16 and they finished all over the place. 3,4,6,8,14,16 so there is no evidence my group was biased one way or the other IMHO. My personal scores after the first five were all over the place compared to the average. I am not sure some of the grad students we used even knew what a tube is. :L3000:

I believe RCA's main office was there but I was just involved in one of two Indiana production facilities.
Yea, my understanding was RCA headquarters were there, for consumer products...on Kings Highway. But honestly I don't remember which building it was or if it's still there. Next time I go to my Mom's, I'll check out the address (I'll do a Google search for it).

Originally in Camden, had offices / facilities in Cherry Hill, Harrison, Princeton. By the way, here is an interesting (to me, at least) account:
