Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

BTW, I have wondered what our esteemed hosts (Jason and Mike) might come up with if they set their sights on power treatment. But I'm pretty sure Jason would dismiss the whole idea as snake oil or just BS. Philosophically, I'd like to do the same. My personal experience, however, has overcome my prejudice.
Hope this helps.
Agreed 100%. I have a Furman IT-Reference 20i here. It was the missing, silent "link" in my system. I cannot overstate the value of an isolated, symmetric power supply for any highly-resolving audio system. Heavy, and expensive, and worth every penny IMHO.

This is an utterly unhelpful response, of course, because you asked for Vidar 2—the one Schiit amp I don't have.
But I was curious, did some tests, and thought I should share:

According to my Kill-A-Watt, at idle*…
…Vidar 1 peaks at ~41W during startup, and once the caps have settled in it levels out at about 38.5W. No standby mode, of course.
…Aegir peaks at ~104W during startup, and then levels out at about 79W—but it takes an hour or two to get there. Draws 11W in standby.
…Tyr peaks at ~43W during startup, and then levels out at about 35W. Draws 9W in standby.

Which means that out of these three, Tyr is your most economical choice. Who knew! 🤣

* in this context, "idle" means connected to a fully powered-up source chain and speakers, but nothing is playing.
Thanks. That’s great info. My impression was about 40W.

Surprised @Jason Stoddard did not reply.

In audio there is never "nothing happening." Every component, every bit of software, every interconnect effects the signal in some way. Often in imperceptible ways, but it is never benign. That's why the best answer is to listen to what you find pleasing and just don't worry about it (unless you are designing a new piece of gear, of course.) Just listen. If there are buttons, press the buttons, if there are knobs, tweak the knobs. Stop when you like it. :)
Master Ableza, it's Grasshopper here.
Can I come over and tweak your knobs?

After a great deal of listening and because of my love of tube sound I will go with a PrimaLuna EVO 100 as my favorite DAC with my speaker amps and headphone amps. It had the most accurate as well as musical sound for my ears. Qobuz never sounded so great before but now it rivals CD’s. I will consider an URD to complete my system.😉
I was rooting for an all Italian setup, SF and Aqua :) I guess the Doge could have been an honorary Italian.

Not that that means anything. :)

I wish I could hear your system. Maybe upload a 384/32 recording of one of your favorite songs :) (not Sinatra, pls!).

The mono Aegirs sound amazing here into a pair of LS50s, but maybe I'm using them wrong...

According to Jason's Law, that slightly larger Aegir would weigh twice as much as the current one and would output 10K BTU/hr (2.9kW).

j/k
K, now we need liquid cooling :-D Calling Mr. Freeze!

PrimaLuna might sound Italian 🤔

If you are in the area a listening session could be arranged. How do you feel about West Coast Jazz?😀

PrimaLuna does sound a bit Italian!

I listen to everything except electronica (in any form) and rap, although I do enjoy Atomic Dog occasionally. Melody for me, pls!

Anyway, putting some actual thought into it, any Melody Gardot or Mutter's The Club Album (Live From Yellow Lounge) or Return of the Jazz Communicators... maybe Knopfler's Screenplaying...?

You laugh, Mr. Cowen, but you can glue a rowboat together with FlexSeal and drive it really fast, too.
I saw it on the TV, so it MUST be true...

:p
