Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

So. Schiit uses a UNISON chipset on their USB interfaces, right? I just saw a competitor have a UNITY circuit. I understand the competitor’s amp doesn’t have a built-in DAC. Still, I wonder if a mature amplifier company is taking notice of an upstart (?!) company like Schiit Audio and using similar terminology?
Lots of possibilities - unity gain is a pretty common term, perhaps mcintosh' unity coupling?

Obviously there's only one correct answer: send the hamster to Texas and they'll make BBQ out of it.
Ummm .. Texas BBQ is centered on brisket. Beef. North Carolina is pork-centered, and clearly a HAMster is belongs in the second camp. (Not arguing aesthetics or preferences, just the irrefutable semantics.)

Hmmm. Do you think that explains the different flavours?

First of all, UNITY and UNISON are not the same words. Second, more than one audio company have been already using the name "Unison" in their products long before Schiit.

Edit: If you look on Schiit's website, it seems their trademark is for "Unison USB" and they are careful about using the two words together.

Just watched this Youtube video from Steven Wilson: musician, producer, etc. His second choice will certainly resonate with this group!

Dammit Bones, I'm an Audiophile, not a Doctor...!!! :vulcan:
Well played.
Alternate in the same theme: "It's worse than that, he's deaf, Jim!"

I've just deleted all Steven Wilson from my server. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye::stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

[edit] Later... well, OK, not really. I did drop down a rabbit hole searching out Autechre and Zoviet France. Not really my cup of tea, but certainly music I'd never heard before. Thank you for that Steven Wilson and @jmarcusg. And, somehow the Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio came up. One CD is in my bag, perhaps the others to follow. Good stuff (IMO, of course).

Anyone know if XLR Psyt cables gonna be restocked on the website? I will need some for my Jot / Modius purchase and was hoping to bundle together to save on international shipping.
I have always had good luck with lease types of questions by simply emailing Schiit. I have always gotten a quick response.

hmmmm ok - passive unbalanced to balanced not going to happen unless you are using transformers *. An example; in my system i'm currently using a Modi, and Apple tv as inputs into a Freya S. Although it has a passive option, it doesn't work feeding a pair of Vidars as monoblocks. I'm awaiting a Yggy, should be fun comparing passive vs 1:1 active Nexus, but I'll still need to switch to Nexus when watching. The only way a balanced passive solution is going to work for you is if all inputs and outputs are, in fact, balanced.

* Transformers can and do sound great - back in my vinyl days I was VERY happily running a Denon DL-103 --> Ortofon T-30 --> preamps that had higher level MM phono inputs (Audionics, then Sumo). At the time clearly better sounding than high gain MC preamp phono inputs
