Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Some are waiting for their latest component to be delivered. Others are awaiting the upcoming Jason and Mike releases. But one thing is certain, we are all listening to music. As I’ve mentioned before, some of the things I like hearing from this group on occasion are new (to me) music finds. Here is a track that I’ve had fun with recently and I think it is appropriate for these trying times – Can’t Find My Way Home. Some say the theme is of being lost and needing to return to one’s own roots, whether it relates to drugs, religion, or whatever. Done by Steve Winwood - Blind Faith and covered by numerous artists. I have to say that my favorite rendition is the one done by RX – Robbie Christmas on his When I Finally Get Myself Together EP. I have the CD too. Great guitar and vocal work and I think well recorded/mixed. It can be found on the streaming services although on some the search takes effort. Here is the YouTube link. Have a great day!

Disclaimer: in the unlikely event I get a Lyr3 / MJ2 / Freya+ and I need someone to fix me up with some toobz, then I retract my "Like" for the above referenced post.
Don't worry, if you take some GE tubes from @bcowen in addition to those he really wants to send you, he'll forgive you for liking superior food.

What sounds better, Modi 3+ with unison, or modi multibit without unison?
From the other thread, it seems that you just wanted something to hold you over while you wait for your other DAC to be repaired. Personally I would just get the $99 Modi 3+. Or get both and decide for yourself. The restocking fee is a worthwhile expense for home trial.

Is the answer, "buy a hairless hamster"...??? :grinning: :hamster:

No fair invoking a Kobayashi Moru solution... Who do you think you are, James T. Kirk?

Back on topic now, when will Mjolnir 3 appear ?
Don't care. Schiit finally invoiced me for a Modi multi-bit. Hopefully my son's Christma-tine's Day present will ship soon. Maybe from Corpus Christi?

Of course, it's shipping in my name. He may not get it until St. Patrick's Day as I may stack it on top of my Bifrost I MB to see what you get for your extra money.
Nah, then it'd be a Christma-tine-rick's Day present. That just sounds stupid.

Hoping to get some input from folks... Upgraded my DAC to an Yggy a few months ago. I've enjoyed the overall improvement in my system, nothing else has changed - my source is my laptop playing local CD rips and downloaded redbook and hi res flacs (HD Tracks) via Audirvana. Everything sounded noticeably better with Yggy in the chain.

Then recently I decided to subscribe to Tidal in an attempt to infuse some new music. I connected the Tidal account to Audirvana and created a playlist of random Master tracks. The sound quality from these Tidal master tracks is a big step up from almost anything I have in my local library, including my hi res downloads. Are these Tidal master tracks supposed to sound this good? I'm not complaining but I'm wondering what the reasoning is. Trying to keep the question appropriate for this thread as I'm discovering this while evaluating my new Yggy.

If it sounds good to you then dance to it. Even if it's

You mean people going from relative to absolute pitch?

As I understood it, they still have absolute pitch (know the note frequency without a referent tone) but they just percieve it half a tone higher than before which is exactly the transformation The Gadget will be making - lowering the pitch by roughly a half-step.

Dear jason,

Been a little snowed under last couple years. 2020 was just more icing on the cake. Every time I think I might get a little caught up on your thread I find myself 50 to 100 pages behind...

Recently I was able to scroll through to this point and sympathize with your circuit conundrums. I certainly hope you can think through these problems. As a loyal supporter from day one of your Schiit enterprise I'm begging you now for help with a math problem I've been working on to keep my sanity. If you can't solve this math problem in a timely manner please, can forward it to Ivana for some help??

thank you in advance:IMG_20210204_105720.jpg

My apologies if this has been posted multiple times and I missed it!

Obviously there's only one correct answer: send the hamster to Texas and they'll make BBQ out of it.

I want to see a review where suddenly crap is coming up. You know, where the reviewer is honest and fair but comes to the conclusion the product is really bad. Can’t remember the last one I saw or read...
Agreed, but the career of a professional reviewer would be fairly short it this happened very often. I've heard reviewers state that they don't want to review crap and that makes sense to me. Even so, one would think it would happen once in awhile.

Here's a review that didn't actually call the product crap, but the thought of "I kind of started to not want to play music" (about 17:00 in the video) is about as damning as I've heard in a very long while.

FWIW, I've been a Darko fan for awhile now, but I'm liking him a bit less over time as he's become somewhat preachy in the last several months. Just my opinion.

Obviously there's only one correct answer: send the hamster to Texas and they'll make BBQ out of it.
TX BBQ hamster tastes better than NC BBQ hamster. :sunglasses:
Jalapeño-bacon-hamster-poppers anyone?

So. Schiit uses a UNISON chipset on their USB interfaces, right? I just saw a competitor have a UNITY circuit. I understand the competitor’s amp doesn’t have a built-in DAC. Still, I wonder if a mature amplifier company is taking notice of an upstart (?!) company like Schiit Audio and using similar terminology?

What's the product using "UNITY"?
