Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

hmmmm ok - passive unbalanced to balanced not going to happen unless you are using transformers. an example; in my system i'm currently using a modi, and apple tv as inputs into a Freya S. Although it has a passive option, it doesn't work feeding a pair of Vidars as monoblocks. I'm awaiting a Yggy, should be fun comparing passive vs 1:1 Nexus, but I'll still need to switch to Nexus when watching. The only way a balanced passive solution is going to work for you is if all inputs and outputs are, in fact, balanced.

grrr sorry! wish they would move the [Edit] link over to the right - constantly miss that :(

Some are waiting for their latest component to be delivered. Others are awaiting the upcoming Jason and Mike releases. But one thing is certain, we are all listening to music. As I’ve mentioned before, some of the things I like hearing from this group on occasion are new (to me) music finds.
Funk-blues-soul-jazz recommended by Roon (from Qobuz), super foot-tapping, danceable, Hammond romp:

* Transformers can and do sound great - back in my vinyl days I was VERY happily running a Denon DL-103 --> Ortofon T-30 --> preamps that had higher level MM phono inputs (Audionics, then Sumo). At the time clearly better sounding than high gain MC preamp phono inputs

Sonically, the DL-103 with a good SUT is still very hard to beat. The DL-103 is still an amazing bargain, the SUT though, not so much.

Thanks for this. I am in my Qobuz trial period! Fun experiments in process...:)

In the same general sound and genre space, I really like Wil Blades, who I've heard live several times:

I'd be inclined to agree! It's painful to relate, but my entire vinyl collection was in storage for about 3 years, while moving from Washington State to Oregon, then back. Upon my return, I discovered my "Storage" company had not been paying mortgage or property taxes, despite collecting monthly payments from me. Long story short - entire collection gone. Some treasures lost. "It's a Beautiful Day", Culshaw's Solti "Ring", some Telarc recordings, including an amazing performance of Tower of Power "Squib Cakes" etc etc....

I still have my Denon DP-6000 with DynaVector DV-505 Arm, if I still had the collection I would have ordered a Sol in a heartbeat

I'm so sorry that happened to you. That would be emotionally devastating, on top of the financial loss.

I'm glad that you still have your table & arm. I hope that you are still buying vinyl from time to time. If you like jazz, the "new" Blue Note "Tone Poet" series are a wonderful addiction if you're not already afflicted.

Yep...incredible longevity as a product too! Was my first MC cartridge back in the late 70's. If I were ever going to get back into vinyl and 2channel speaker based audio, I'd probably start with a decent manual turntable and this cartridge...if for no reason other than to time travel back to my youth. ;-)

As I’ve mentioned before, some of the things I like hearing from this group on occasion are new (to me) music finds. Here is a track that I’ve had fun with recently and I think it is appropriate for these trying times – Can’t Find My Way Home. Some say the theme is of being lost and needing to return to one’s own roots, whether it relates to drugs, religion, or whatever. Done by Steve Winwood - Blind Faith and covered by numerous artists. I have to say that my favorite rendition is the one done by RX – Robbie Christmas on his When I Finally Get Myself Together EP. I have the CD too. Great guitar and vocal work and I think well recorded/mixed. It can be found on the streaming services although on some the search takes effort. Here is the YouTube link. Have a great day!

Here's another great version of this classic tune. This is Bonnie Raitt with Lowell George and others, from a live-in-the-studio radio broadcast (WLIR-FM) from Ultrasonic Studios on Lawn Guyland in 1972.

That was fun, thanks. Another classic for sure. Good sound from the 70’s :dt880smile:
