Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Would we perhaps see a Modi 3 absorb the Modi 2 & 2 Uber for the Modi 2 price? Although I understand having the extra inputs are part of the challenge bringing down the cost (and having toslink matters to me) but if the case has a refined process of manufacturing then maybe it's possible. Regardless it's exciting that Schiit was able to do it with the Magni. I'd be ecstatic if the price gaps in the Multibits could be reduced.

I recently bought a second hand Modi 2 Uber. Is there a way to find out if it has the AK4490 chip?

If you knew before hand that it did not have that chip would you have still bought it?

If it does not have the chip in question, will you then become dissatisfied with it? Ignorance is not bliss, my friend. In this case bliss is being content in the fact that you enjoy what you have for what it does for you. Not what you "think" it does, but what it actually does. If it makes you happy, then be content with that fact.

Or not. And good luck with it!

This wonderful advice Toad, well said.

I broke the rules and opened mine up to check. The only hard part was lining up the LEDs when putting it back together
What's funny is when I did my own Uber upgrade the LEDs didn't line up but I liked it because I could still tell that they were on, just much dimmer.

Then I get the multibit upgrade and those crafty Schiitters got them lined up perfectly again!

Time to order some dimmers...

You have to slide the gray frame out first, then remove the board. When you assemble it again, you start with board. Then put in the frame. You will have absolutly no problems alling the LEDs. I posted this already in this thread with a picture showing the screws which have to be removed first.

Thanks for the advice! I emailed schiit, and it turns out you do have to take it apart to check - which I did this morning.

Good news is that I managed to take it apart and put it back together, without destroying it in the process :)

Bad news is... Well, there's no bad news. My unit has the older AK 4396, BUT even though I now know that, it still sounds every bit as good to my ears. :D

Right now I'm listening to a specific playlist, as my little tribute to Tom Petty. Rest in Peace, Tom! :disappointed_relieved:
