Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Dood. Dood… Dooood! This is audiophilia, get your sanity out of here, man. What are you, a noob!? 🙄

Personally, I arranged my main two-channel stack with the DAC up top, then EQ below that, then the pre, and then the two power amps.
Why?
Gravity assist, man! Helps them electrons trickle down more better, duh!

The only problem is that one of the Tyrs sits one shelf higher than the other one. The resulting channel imbalance is killing me. 😒
I think it's all right, as the flavors of the electrons in the Tyr will sort that out for you.

I'm waiting for my bourbon, chocolate and butterscotch electrons to settle down for an evening of listening.

Your system is a classic example of measurements vs. reality. That audio signal is traveling at/nearly at the speed of light. Two wires of different length means the signal gets to the end of one wire a miniscule (nanoseconds, picoseconds) amount earlier. Yes, it's measurable. The difference in impedance of the wires is measurable but miniscule. Using human ears as the measuring instrument means...hey, it sounds great.
Well said.

So, there's an Incubus. Is there a Succubus to match?
That would be Mr. Cowen’s sideways Incubus.🤪

The full name of the amp comes from a cat I owned, Incubus Elegans (Elegant nightmare.) I actually called the cat Gonzo, after Hunter S. Thompson’s style of journalism. I no longer make them, I accomplished what I set out to do and hopefully along the way made a few friends happy.😊

I'm glad you said it. No one would take me seriously if I did. (Not that they ever do.) :D

Ever build your own braided headphone cables??? Those can require some skill and practice. I was fortunate to have a young employee able to do braiding. I learned it, taught her, then ran away.🤪 I can do it but I don’t want to.

I was thinking you once sent me some wire you wanted made into a headphone cable but maybe that was someone else. 😉
Remember this? Neotech copper wire. She did an incredible job with the braiding.

6922 Recommendations?

I have a piece of tube gear that came with a pair of current production JJ 6922s. They are fine, but I'm in the mood to roll...

Are there any "special" 6922s out there that don't cost an arm, leg and kidney? I was looking at the Mullards, but they are close to $200 each. Yikes.
Some common substitutes for the 6922 are the EC88, 6DJ8 and several others. The 6DJ8 and the EC88 can be found nos for not a lot of dough.

That makes sense, it would have been far too much work for me to do on your behalf.🤪

Yep I figured they would. I build all my own cables including USB so I am not always familiar with other products. I did buy a cargo van full of gear and there were some WBC in that lot and when I was in the industry I received a lot of samples. Now I am but a simple woodworker and cat wrangler.🤪
Yeah, sure-----.

Note that a dual-tube adapter will be needed for an EC88 as it is a single triode (and has 2X the gain of a 6DJ8 or 6922). The ECC88 is an equivalent to the 6DJ8. Not trying to be nitpicky, just noting there is a big difference in that one little letter.

Then I better don’t tell you that I’m actually, no kidding, seriously using speaker cables of widely varying lengths. The right speaker sits right next to my rack, the left speaker is about ten feet to the left. And so I’m using a three foot cable for the right speaker and a twelve footer for the left.
Works just fine.

OMG! How do you sleep at night? 🤣

Right now, I have an 8' length of AntiCable (12 ga solid-core) running to the left speaker, and 25' of 18 ga lamp cord going to the right speaker. My initial layout of the audio room produced some disappointing results, and it's far easier to move the speakers around the walls in search of that sweet spot than move the equipment. Yes, I don't plan to leave it like that.

(The new place’s layout will be different, allowing for equal-length cables. But while my current room situation is perfect for symmetry, the new room will suck. A wall at one side and the open kitchen to the other. That actually bothers me to no end. It’s the only thing that I don’t like about the new place. But something’s gotta give. At least I can keep all the closet space just for myself. 😁)
You get all the closet space? I'm insanely jealous. :frowning2:
