And talking about calculators... and yes I do clean its battery contacts with DeOxit. :)

A landmark of a machine. I'm quite a bit younger and I have yet to see one in person. My RPN weapon of choice is about my age, the 32sii, but what got me through school and still gets the most use is the 50g. I'm expecting the DM32 to change that when funds allow and I'm looking forward to Moravia eventually resurrecting or creating a calculator useful to me.
HP made a big mistake when they abandoned RPN. I LOVED my HP 45!
It is now less abandoned than it was! Check out the Klaas Kuperus talk from HPCC 2022 on youtube and look up the 15C Collectors Edition.

For the few who are curious and not already in the know about these marvelous machines: https://www.hpmuseum.org/

There is some very nice industrial design in the early HP calculators, especially the 9810, 9820 and 9830.

Oh lookie, a dinosaur egg!
Look a little further back. Something that I used in college … (even as a French / French literature major !)

Hey! Where's @Ripper2860? Not like him to not post 20-30 times per day. If he's on vacation it's going to take a full day just to catch up here!
Spent the last 10 days in TN. Most of it in a cabin in the mountains with virtually no internet or cell service. Beautiful fall colors!! It was glorious! Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, Knoxville (went to the Vols vs A&M game), then on to Nashville (Broadway St.) and Memphis (Beal St.). Just got back yesterday evening.

Catching up at work and then I must watch the Rangers whoop-ass on Houston tonight. I'll start catching up tomorrow and try to make up for my 140-210 post deficit.

Indeed! The one I posted is a programmable 41CV. It helped solve several engineering projects and it's still very useful today. Just cleaned its battery contacts with DeOxit.

Beautiful slide rule. I also had a Faber-Castell but left it in Grad School in a lecture hall and lost it. It was replaced by an HP 25 (49 steps of RPN programming). I still have this Aristo:

Very nice unit that DM32. For those in the Apple garden, there are acceptable RPN calculators for both MacOS and iOS.

For the rest of us, there is Thomas Okken's excellent Free42. I have a few other apps but they are nowhere near as nice.

Most of my high school teachers, "What will you do if don't have a calculator?" A few of the darker ones, "What if the Russians bomb Texas Instruments?"
• In similar fashion, at ‘less than 10 items’ checkout lane at grocery ….

Me: [Five items totaling $28.63, hand young cashier $30.00] “That will be $1.37 back, please.”

Young cashier: “How did you do that 😳?”

Me: “It’s called arithmetic 😒.”

Yep. Still have my HP25C, somewhere. Needs a new/rebuilt battery pack.

I'm curious: was that argument as ridiculous to you then as "What if you don't have your phone?" is to us now? I'm thinking it would have been to me. Or maybe I would have had a circular slide rule in my pocket as backup... yeah, I probably would have done that, at least if I lived in the LED display era when batteries drained quickly.

I carry a lot of in-case items almost all the time. In the audio category there is a Schiit Fulla (3 I think), some USB cables of various roles, a 3.5 mm stereo to dual RCA cable, a pair of headphones, an IEmatch, a 3.5 mm to 1/4" adapter... and, most importantly: at least two sets of earplugs. Always carry earplugs.
