My first live show was in Jr. High. A school assembly. The U.S. Air Force Band. They opened with the usual pomp and circumstance pieces. But, a few songs in, out blasts Roundabout by YES. An awesome performance. I've been hooked on YES ever since. 😃

My first concert, requiring paid tickets, was Stevie Ray Vaughan. The Fabulous Thunderbirds opened for SRV. The Thunderbirds sounded great. The SVR sound man sucked. Horrible sound, but a good performance. Figures...! 🤪
That story reminds me of when a USAF band visited my school in 1976 - the highlight was an incredible version of ' theme from Shaft ' plus ' this town aint big enough ( for the both of us ) by Sparks !!

Got a new rack and finally got a decent picture of my stuff. Schiit plays an important part.
Thats a nice setup - But I would think twice about locating your Tyr's on your subs as you WILL get microphonic feedback via the heatsinks into the output transistors and the transformer laminations and windings and thats not optimal !!

So many great concerts ... but this one wins it in my book.

My first live concert(s) were at the Valparaiso (IN) University Chapel and were all classical / chamber music. They were part of the Community Concert Series and my Mom was the program's director. I helped hand-out programs at the door. The best shows were when they played the organ :)

First rock concert - VU gymnasium - Edgar Winter in 1974. They played Frankenstein. We also saw the Harlem Globetrotters play a game there ... it was a rough show; Curly Neal had a heart attack and they had to take him to the hospital.

Edgar Winter - Frankenstein Live at that Beautiful venue !!! wow ! wow ! WOW !!!

2022, Chapter 14:
Hel Hath Frozen

So, for the first time in 12 and a half years, we’re doing a sale. Kinda.

This is partly because this year has been brutal in terms of inflation. Almost everything seems like it’s going up. You deserve a break from that. This is our counter, our give-back, our way of trying to make things a bit better at the end of a long crazy year.

If you’re interested, it’s at: https://schiit.com/b-stocks

And that’s where most companies would stop talking.

unnamed.jpg

Let us go on a bit.

Here’s the deal. Yeah, we are doing this because we love you. And we’re also doing it because we like tilting at windmills. And we’re also doing it because, to be totally frank, we gotta lotta schiit hanging around, and it needs to go.

“Aha, that’s the real reason,” someone says. “You somehow went from having nothing in stock to being overstocked. Idiots! How did you let that happen?”

And, you know, that’s a pretty decent insult. But why stop there? Why not take us to task for introducing a ton of new products (still a couple to go this year, maybe!), which is not exactly conducive to inventory control?

Here’s the reality: it’s tough planning in a normal year. And 2022 was, by far, the most bizarre year ever. We went from lockdown-stuck-free-money-buy-everything to, well, the inevitable hangover. We went from can’t-get-no-parts and can’t-get-no-line-time and how-much-extra-you-gonna-pay-for-that-run to can-get-most-parts and tons-of-line-time, and, probably soon, hey-you-got-work-for-us on the assembly side.

So planning for 2022? Oh yeah no nevermind.
  • Instead of introducing everything at the planned time, we had tons of delays
  • Instead of introducing everything we wanted to, we had the DSP debacle (and still do)
  • Instead of being able to count on several products, they went on hiatus or into redesign
  • Instead of a rational schedule of kitting and production, we got all stacked up
  • Instead of a normal summer slowdown, things got really slow
So, kinda a perfect storm.

Is this a problem? No. It just means stuff gets pushed to next year and we readjust. We run very conservatively, we don’t report to a board, we’re not public, so it’s not a big deal.

Aside: this is a reality of business. If you aren’t ready for a few bumps in the road, stay far away. We’ve been very lucky. It was still a great year, by many metrics. We still showed significant growth over pre-pandemic years, for example.

But we do have a bunch of stuff.

So, I thought, Maybe it’s time to move some of it out. Maybe it’s time to do a sale-ish kinda thing.

And that’s how you get what we’re calling “B-Stock Friday.” Except it’s not just B-stock, it’s also closeout and just some plain deals. And we’re cutting a lot harder than we normally do.

“But you said you’d never do sales!” someone cries.

Close. What I said is that you should never do sales. Which still stands. Don’t expect this to be a once-a-year thing. Don’t even expect this to happen again. Planning has already realigned 2023 (which means, yeah, if it gets bonkers again, expect backorders.)

In the meantime, enjoy the kinda-sorta sale!

Just don't make it a habit

You know what I'd also like? A matching "power conditioner"/"battery" same size as Magni with 3 outputs for Magni, Modi and Loki. (a Magni-sized Cthulhu)

Now that's a change I can get behind!
Me too. Kind of like this. Except in silver. 🤣

I test with a fingernail, if the blade digs in I know it is sharp.
A serrated Cutco is always sharp. 🤣

Cutco.jpg

True story: my parents received a set of Cutco knives as a wedding present....back in the '50's. Several of those knives are still in use today. A few years ago the handle broke on the large chef's knife (the handle was made of wood back then rather than the resin used today). Sent it back to Cutco, and they replaced it with a brand new one at no charge (and that's a $160+ knife today). "Forever" warranty? Seems so, as that knife was almost 70 years old.

Sorry, but explaining that would require a comprehensive review.
I don't do those. 🤪
No, no, no. I like your detailed reviews. Just add a TL;DR section for the attention span challenged types. 🤣

My first was
Debbie Gibson
My second was Guns’n Roses with Skid Row as the opener. I’m pretty sure I got a contact high from that outdoor concert.

I’ve seen Metallica a couple times. Tool was amazing live. I’ve been to Lalapalooza and Lilith Fair.

One of my favorite concerts though was at Summerfest in Milwaukee. If you don’t know it’s a music festival that features 11 open stages as well as a big amphitheater for the premium acts. The 11 stages are available to all with general admission. One day in ‘94 I went by myself without knowing who was playing. I saw a big crowd waiting at one of the stages only to find out Journey was performing with Steve Perry back up front! They played for an hour and killed it. I even got a joint passed to me which was nice. Then I moseyed over to another stage and Foreigner started playing. Lou Gramm present and accounted for. Another great performance! Both bands sounded like they were at their peak. It was completely unexpected and it only cost me $12 to get in!
Ok I'm not quite as embarrassed about my first
Whitney Houston
now hehe.
Later that Summer was Bon Jovi with my best friend at an outdoor venue and coincidentally we also got a contact high. I remember asking my Mom (she was a trooper, and this would be the first and last rock concert she would attend with us, but I paid her back in spades by taking her to all of her Country favorites, and things like Riverdance etc... later in life) why it smelled like skunk and she just laughed.

I've lost track of the amount of concerts I've been to over the years but it's well into the hundreds. For years we purchased season passes to the amphitheater and would go to almost every show that we wanted to see, sometimes on back to back nights.

I believe the bands I've seen the most are Dream Theater and Metallica both at 7 each, there might be some opening bands I've seen more, but those are harder to remember.
