Agreed, nothing matters but the [REDACTED]. My prediction: at switch on it will instantly redact my entire collection of headphones, speakers, amps, DACs, source and digitally stored music.
Life will be so much simpler.

I would like to see a "cooler" Schiit Lyr 2. Now in summer time the volume knob is really hot.

I'm pretty sure that Schiit knows what they're doing with regards to their designs, so I wouldn't worry about the heat, especially when the case is used as a heatsink. Components that use a "Class A" design or tubes often run hotter than most other gear, and that's how it's supposed to be. It seems like "most" everyone claims that their headphone amps are "Class A" nowadays, yet many run very cool to the touch...I don't trust a cool running amp that claims to be a true Class A design.
I don't know if any of your guys ever spent any time around those big Krell, Threshold or Mark Levinson amps in the early 90's, but they were HUGE and like giant space heaters. I guess since I got into buying better audio components in the mid 80's I'm used to the good stuff running very warm to hot...I have a hard time trusting/warming up to a cold running amp.
I certainly wouldn't worry about it, as long as you're not blocking the vents on the amp. If Schiit was the least bit concerned they wouldn't have a 5-year warranty on their products. Good luck and enjoy your music!
As an aside, I bought a Nakamichi PA-7 amp (Nelson Pass design) in 1988/89 that ran pretty warm/hot and I used it for just over 15 years to drive various Magnepans without any issues.

I think you are right, concerning the components inside the housing. Using the housing as a heat sink is ok, but good designers should decouple the parts which you usually have to touch like a volume control knob. This knob becomes too hot after 1 or 2 hours usage.

Guys, we've been through this before:
1. At our operational temperatures, the shortest lifespan components (besides tubes, the electrolytic capacitors) are expected to last 60,000 hours. Look into temperature derating of capacitors (the "3000 hours" rating is at maximum operational temperature, which we are nowhere near.)
2. The use of the chassis as a heatsink leads to overall lower operational temperatures for the output devices than a typical device using PC-mounted heatsinks inside a chassis. Grab on to some of those, and you'll lose skin, because 60-80 degrees C is not unusual.
3. If 35-40 degrees C is too much for your fingers (the typical temperature of a Lyr 2 knob in a typical room), then I think you need to think twice about having a significant other, since they're gonna run right in the middle of that temperature range. If your room is 85 degrees F, then yes, the temperature will be higher, but it's still nothing to worry about, per point 1 and 2 above.
Bottom line, if we didn't think it would last for twice the warranty period, the warranty would be shorter to reflect that. With well over 100,000 products in the field, our repair tech still only works about 16 hours a week, on all repairs, including internal stuff that failed on the burn-in rack.

Everyone's knob gets very warm/hot after 1 or 2 hours of use...that's normal.
The Lyr gets very warm as does the Asgard 2, it's never concerned me. I've seen some guys put a rubber ring or two around the knob to make it easier to touch without feeling the heat.
