Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I can confirm that the F2A tube in proper SET configuration blows away a 300B - or at least it did with my Devore Orangutans. An F2A headphone amp might be fun....

At $1000 a pop? On sale?
I think I can manage... :flushed:

$1,995 a piece on sale. I think I can get by without a 300B amp in my collection.

Well, the good news is that some of the new Fulla/gaming products that are coming out "Real Soon Now" have a mic input/ADC built in. Granted it's not a mini-gain-1 reverse-multibit stage, but rather probably just some delta-sigma type implementation, but at at least it's a Schiit input. I'm tempted to get one to use as an audio in/out box for amateur radio through a computer/software defined radio (but that's a whole different hobby...)

Personally, given the occasional brushes with field/live recording I've had in my life, I've always dreamed of a Schiit box with phantom power and nice quiet microphone pre-amps, feeding a nice gain-style mutlibit ADC stage, oh yeah, and run the whole shebang on 6-12V DC/battery power in a small rugged portable box, but alas such a unicorn never existed.

At least I was able to snag one of the last Jils before they disappeared, That's a partial solution.

Getting a Jil in time, excellent!

However, from my cursory reading of the specs for the new gaming gear, the microphone input is mono. No good for transcribing LPs or cassettes.

Phantom power etc. is more for professional use, Schiit has never shown any interest in that side of the business.

Oh, I thought the price was for a matched pair.
I don’t think I’ll ask what an amp for those costs...

If you build it yourself, it can be $1800 without tubes depending on transformer.

Best to order two matched pairs. That way you'll have a backup pair 20 years from now when the first pair wears out.

Honestly, I have no idea how these re-reproductions sound. The original reproductions were quite good, if not quite to the level of the originals. I don't even have an amp to use them in right now, so I'm still waiting on Jason. :relaxed:

Yikes.

For the price of one matched pair of those (need two tubes, one per channel as they’re single triodes), I can get a Lyr3, Loki mini, Bifrost2, and PYST interconnects for the stack of them. Wait. Not done yet, I can also throw in a quad of replacement JJ tubes for the Lyr3..

Now, for the price of a matched quad... :relaxed:

This is audio. What does money have to do with anything?

An indirect-heated tetrode "blowing away" a direct-heated triode? I guess anything is possible no matter how improbable.

LOL! And, they are on sale, who could possibly resist?

What a perfect opportunity to fling the spousal units usual words right back at her: "But honey, they were on sale. Look how much money I saved!!"
