Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

So, what areas around Nashville should I look at to buy a home. I’d like about an acre of land and being close to Franklin would not be a bad thing.

For retirement, since you won't be commuting, almost anywhere is a possibility.
Brentwood has very nice properties, but is closer to Nashville so expensive. The old money.

Franklin is expanding; they just announced a project to build a loop around the eastern side of the town, diverting traffic away from the town center. A big improvement.

So, either West or South of Franklin are good choices.
Take a ride west on TN96 toward the Natchez-Trace Parkway and Leipers Fork ... very nice over there.

On the east side of Franklin, the areas around Arrington and Nolensville are rural with easy access to Franklin.
New properties are being built there, all the time.

We live in Rutherford county, between Nashville and Murfreesboro, which is building many new schools, a selling point.
It's really a pretty small area ... we can be in downtown Franklin in 20-min, on the back roads.
Happy hunting :)

Agreed, all the woofers that I have blown have been age related. I have never blown tweeters but the people I know that have done so, play very loud
It's all a bit strange. The speakers are very good quality and only 3 years old. Rated for up to a 250 watt amplifier and, while I was listening at a higher volume, it's a relatively small room and still would only have been around 75% volume setting on the Freya in tube mode. In JFET or pass through even maximum volume is quite moderate - which is why I was wondering about needing two Vidars. I'll get a meter today to see if that shows anything.

Those speakers are quite new. I don't really have an explanation for you. My speakers tend to not last much beyond 20 years or so.

The "250 watt amplifier" is the key. Is this RMS, peak, music power, continuous, or other? The only figure that matters is the "max RMS power" capability of the woofer. Remember, a 100w peak power can be less than 1 w RMS.

My cave got some updates recently. Nice, exiting time. I builded some ‘concrete’ hifi-furniture. The ‘italian steel’ stands also arrived and support my ATC solidly. Very nice beautiful speakerstand (Solidsteel SS5), Reasonable price too i find.

Now it comes, my wife bought me some Schiit! I am now the happy owner of a Vali2. Very goid little amp. Works great with my HD6xx’s. Also put it as preamp in the loudspeaker set-up and lovely it is. A bit of hum (no problem from normal listening distence and volume) and bass is not as tight. Now some tube rolling to come, Vali2 is the first tube stuff i own and it is a very pleasant entry. Tips on a nice upgrade tube are welcome. Got my eye on a Tesla E88CC but wonder if it adds enough in the sense od SQ or different taste of sound

And yes the LED on the Vali is way too bright. My kids tought i left the flashlight on:ksc75smile:
But Jason tackled this issue and solved that for future products with the new ‘pipes’ for now i solve it with a delicate sticker with nailpolish on top bright ruby red:)

One more thing, question on a tube for Vali: would it run a E288CC / 8223 Siemens ?

They need more current i understood, would little Vali2 give that to the tube?

Edit:
Just tackled my own question i think.
This i found on the tube:
“The E288CC / 8223 are absolute top sounding special quality tubes. They are not exactly the same as the E88CC / 6922. They require a little more heater current (0.475A against 0.3A) which the amps power supply has to deliver.
Also they have slightly different amplification and plate impedance, but this is not problem in common E88CC circuits.”

And Jason wrote this on the Schiit Audio website:

And when the tube goes bad?
You replace it. We sell single 6BZ7 tubes, matched to 2%, for $10. But there are a lot of other options out there, including 6DJ8, 6922, ECC88, 2492, and even more. Pretty much any tube with a 6DJ8 pinout, 6V heater, and 600mA or less of heater current will work fine in Vali 2. Beyond that, we don't speculate which tubes are "best."”

Very nice. All very nice, but the Speaker Stands have certainly peaked my interest and would go nicely with my Elacs.

LightDims Silver Edition film LED covers work great for dimming the bright LEDs on Schiit products, match the case pretty well and can be peeled off.

Thanks! I like to be in the room, gezellig! Check the stands out. Different heights available. Very well made and you can fill them with fine sand if you please. Before i had good stands but too small. I noticed a direct bass improvement with these Solidsteels

We are in the same place. I got a Vali 2 and my first tube purchase was a Telefunken E88CC-TK, which at $48 new was a splurge for me. Today I am experiencing 6sn7, which requires a socket saver and adapter. But it is very musical, and a larger soundstage than the stock sized tube. I am listening to a New Production JJ from Slovakia.

I also bought a New Sovtek, which sounds different than the JJ. I have four tubes and a one-hole amplifier, I guess this is Rolling...looking forward to hearing your opinions. BTW Tube depot has all three--the socket saver, adapter and the 6sn7 tube is $15.95.

don't buy an adapter from China, it took forever to make over the Pacific. Best to order them all together, postage is the same $3.50 whether you buy $2 or $20...
