Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Ya know, you have to count me in the unconvinced column. I'm really enjoying this new fetish (or more accurately, reborn in a different form), but one of the things that appeals about the Schiit philosophy is the lack of adoration of sacred cows.

I can't ever see me bringing myslef to enter into the cable debate, for example. DACs pretty much sit there too, though to a lesser degree. As you will see elsewher, I'm using Raspberry Pi / IQAudio /HiFiBerry / Dietpi DACs and I find it hard to see a DRAMATIC improvement over them. At least for now, I'm satisfied with that setup. We'll see how that progresses!

Cheers

Purely from an aesthetic standpoint, I'd buy 25' of garden hose, cut off the ends, then cut two lengths to size and slide'm over that 28 gauge lamp cord. Then get ready to have fun with any audiophiles you might invite over.

A trick I have used. Get red hose, it's the best for that. :)

This is what I actually used once at the CES in Las Vegas. But I will admit it was covering 14AWG zip cord.

This is the finest thing I have seen on the internet this week. :)

There was some Nordost cabling posted earlier by @Pietro Cozzi Tinin
I borrowed some less expensive flat Nordost speaker wire from a friend, as I already have one of their interconnects from CD to Saga, and using it with Vidar there was an audible humming through my speakers.

Hifiberry DACs are surprisingly good. They definitely beat the PS Audio DL III, IMHO, but I suggest you give Mimby a try. It is not expensive and may serve as your gateway drug.

Yeah. Read awhile back in HF or in another forum that certain speaker cables can induce humming sounds on the speakers from the Vidar.

Here’s an article from computer audiophile, specifically the focal sopra
https://www.computeraudiophile.com/ca/reviews/schiit-audio-reference-system-review-part-2-r690/

It happens. Back in my retail days if you used anything but Naim speaker cable with their amps there would be all kinds of problems... blown output stages, blown speaker drive units. Humming is mild in comparison!

Nordost is good cable, but not a good match with all systems.

Two of my favorite speaker cables are Canare 4S8 and 4S11.

Four cables in a star quad configuration at 16 awg and 14 awg respectively.

I have never had an issue regardless of amp or speakers used. It offers great flexibility because if you double up the cables 14 awg becomes 11 awg, 16 awg becomes 13 awg as shown in the spec sheets for the cable.

Lol that certainly makes it easy to remember. This cable runs around $1.00 per foot or less. That certainly looks like a decent company.

I use https://www.schmittcustomaudiocables.com/

Decent cables at a decent price...

I A-B-A'd one of their power cables with a Nordost Heimdall 2 and couldn't notice a difference...
I think i told before: after some pro van damme biwire cable i made my own of old subwoofer signal cable (oehlbach nf214) fantastic result to my ears
