Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I do not recall The Keep but I may check it out.
It's finally available to at least rent on the streaming services or view with ads on Tubi, I think. It was unavailable for decades and had built a bit of a cult following. Rights to the music (Tangerine Dream) held it up for a very long time. I hope the version that can now be seen is the full 200+ minute version and not the horrible 96 minute butcher-job the studio released.

Yes… and… no…

It gets easier for me every year that Waters becomes ever more the dick head.

Van Morrison, Clapton (grotesquely over-rated), and especially Waters are effectively dead to me.

I might be perfectly happy with the AT-ART 20 and you are certainly someone whose opinion I respect. I have been offered several shares of stock to add to my granddaughter’s college portfolio and I may take that and get something more in the $5k-10k range.
What turntable and arm do you have?
Very kind of you @Paladin79 :relaxed:

I am no expert on Vinyl systems, but I am really enjoying it again, after a gap of almost 25 years!

I have used an AT ART9 XI MC cartridge as well.
https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/cartridges/type/moving-coil/at-art9xi

It is also very good, but ( in my opinion) not as good as the AT ART 20.
https://www.audio-technica.com/en-gb/cartridges/type/moving-coil/at-art20

My turntable is a Technics SL1200G with the stock tonearm.

I was pretty happy with my original set up, which was an Ortofon 2M Black LVB 250 ( Moving Magnet) cartridge and an inexpensive Rega Fono MM Mk 3 Phono preamp. The Rega was around £200 in UK.

However, I rather rashly decided to 'upgrade' to an MC cartridge, which meant I needed a new Phono preamp plus there was the cost of a new MC cart!

Such is the crazy world of an audiophile with a vinyl addiction.

I ended up using AT cartridges as they were recommended by the designer of my Phono stage.
It is a fantastic phono stage ( expensive though...)

I won't mention the manufacturer's name, as this is a Schiit forum and I am a big fan of Jason and Mike.

If I hadn't already bought it, I'd definitely be in the market for a Stjarna, based on my experience with the Folkvangr.

Yeah, that's all good and fine but can you tell them apart in a properly conducted double-blind test? 🤣
A double blind test implies to me that I have to tell them apart by braille. My fingertips are ready for the challenge. :smile_cat:

You have an amazing classic turntable! Very cool indeed. I keep a Hitachi direct drive for vinyl testing after I clean records in my shop. Easy to use and auto shutoff so I do not have to always be there with it.😉

I am still going to refurbish a classic Thorens but there are only so many hours in the day.

Oddly enough, I have the OG released on 12” Laser disk… of course my player died decades ago. The movie and soundtrack are epic; and dark/scary as all get out.

Tomorrow is their birthday, last day of The Day of the Dead so we had gifts for them including this. IMG_8478.jpeg
I believe it will be a DOTD party. We tend to have gifts for those who hang out with us. I had to explain tubes to the sister who is visiting, it is not like they grew up with them.🤪

Are you running that DAC as NOS from the recorded source or upsampled/DSD modulated? Folks I trust claim that DAC is best from (upsampled) DSD, which would agree with my experience with its bigger siblings. My guess is that NOS+MJ3 is too much of a good thing, very tasty mids but slightly smeared bass.
Both.
Both provide good results here.
IMO its a subjective thing...after a few minutes I get lost in the music unless I am really trying to AB stuff..
Read all the gorp on upsampling etc and DSD.
On a good day with a nice wind at your back either way works here very well..
Cant wait to A/B with Gugnir 2.

None? Sorry. I went through $75 worth of candy in an hour and a half. Lots of kiddos. Wasn't sure what to expect since this was our first Halloween here, but next year I apparently need more candy.
The parents were hoping that you would run out of candy and start giving out Fotons.

Give away Fotons? Shirley, you can't be serious. I thought about giving away GE's but don't want to instantly become Public Enemy #1 in the neighborhood. 🤣

Trick or Treaters?

Bah Humbug.
Lights out, shutters shut, TV off, music down low (there's always music playing at the palatial House Of Balm)

Money spent on candy?...Zero! :relieved:
Scrooge - it's Xmas when you are supposed to be stingy...
