I did spend a bit of time today with headphone amps that did not make the cut but my scores are meaningless since I knew most would average in the 70’s or 80’s anyway. I did get to hear amps I might not hear otherwise so there is that. Tomorrow final tests begin for the top rated amps and then I can go back to regular hobbies.

Breaking in my new refurbished hifiman Arya stealth on some schiit! Coming from he400i and meze 99 neo, I'm completely blown away. They sound great on my Vali 2/modi + stack, and they run great on my fulla e at the office. I might be looking at a schiit amp upgrade in the future, but for now, this is incredible for me. At $599, I think these refurbished Arya stealth are a steal!

Thoughts from the horde on what a good compliment/upgrade would be for amplification in the future? I'm thinking midgard, asgard or jotunheim 2. I definitely don't need tons of power for these, but still....

I have the same refurbished phones for a few months now. Over the top out of the Mjolinar 3 via Gungnir MB Unison. Same DAC to Asgard 2 is nice also.

I know the Sangri La’s but not the minis and they are incredible. I listen to fewer headphones now so I strive for the best if I take the time.

The Shangri La Jr (different from the Mini) are the only HiFiMAN electrostatic headphone I've heard. One of the reasons I only listened to three songs that afternoon is because there was something immediately and obviously right about its sound for me. I knew my friend would keep them long enough for both of us to have a good, long audition, so there was no hurry. I may offer to buy them from him. That first impression was powerful.

This may have been talked about before but last night I watched All Things Must Pass. A documentary by Colin Hanks about the history of Tower Records. It is available on many platforms and does a great job of covering how the music industry changed. With record sales improving the creditors who ended up with the name are starting to open Tower Record stores again and they were still big in Japan. The man behind the company died in 2018, Russ Solomon.

I think it was Tom Waits who predicted that in 1999.
