Hemp is my favorite headphone ever. But it’s not for everybody. Grado is love or hate.
My RS1x is phenomenal with my FV; Grado's seem to pair well with the FV in general! Using with right now!

Which gain and multiplier settings are you using?

I think I might need to buy ZMF pads for my SR125. If I can’t sell it, it might instead be a fun modding project.
I use high gain with no multiplier, or more recently, using my Jot2 as a preamp into it (bal in SE out) with low gain on the FV and volume static at 12 o'clock and high on the Jot.

The Jot seems to improve the low-end slam a bit by doing it this way. My initial thought was the slightly better output chip on the Bifrost from the bal out.

The 2/64 uses the differential LME49724 opamp, the same as used in the Yggdrasil and other balanced products. The single-ended uses the OPA1656 opamp.

I've been mulling over my next headphone purchase. I currently have the HD600, I think they lack a little bit of speed. So I've been thinking of going planar, but I've also heard great things with Grados.
Really efficient planars like the LCD-X do well and I would say sound really good but I don’t think the pool of high efficiency planar headphones is very big.

Planars and the FV can be tricky. It’s usually loss of bass control with muddy, boomy bass from the headphone. Now, depending on the headphone and your music taste, this may not be a bad thing.

I personally love the combo of Mojo 2>FV (high gain and impedance multiplier on)> DCA stealth. But, I don’t listen to this combo loud. Maybe 80-90db max.

Your safest bet is stick with dynamic drivers with the FV.

Maybe try an XLR to SE cable converter to see if the difference is the opamp

I noticed the difference with my WA22 first by putting the Jot2 in the chain, and using Nexus to convert balanced to se is probably better anyway.

The better opamp is probably a very subtle difference (slightly more resolving from what I've read), and I can use an SE into the Jot2 from the BF2 and flip back and forth with the switch to evaluate the difference.

So I sent my Folkvangr in for repair. I received the email with the repair order today. Says it was repaired and that's it. Not what was repaired. Has anyone else had this experience. I reached out in an email for clarification, but it was towards the end of the work day so I expect a response tomorrow.

I just got the 660s2, and it's such a treat with the FV.

Well, it is time once again that I find myself going down the rabbit hole and looking at different tubes. Through my perusing of this fine web site and the internet, I have come across the much-touted Reflektor Holy Grail '75 6N23P SWGP. This poster holds it in high regard, https://www.head-fi.org/threads/692...c-cca-7308-e188cc-tubes.761078/#post-11464856 . Has anyone had experience with this particular tube? When searching this tube, is not inexpensive, eBay has them but at a cost of $759 and $650, $1,295, $1,495 for a matched pair, that is a lot of coin. When searching for different years the price drops greatly. In addition, has anyone purchased tubes from USSR-Tubes? They have the tube for $100 each. https://ussr-tubes.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=247

I recall the saying “if it’s too good to be true…”

Either the EBay sellers are dangling crazy prices and see if someone bites (not unlikely), or this guy is selling used or possibly noisy tubes.

While I believe tubes make a difference, I am not convinced they make that big a difference. Tubes don’t last forever either.

Are the USSR tubes legit? No idea, but Russia isn’t exactly known as a place where honesty is held in high regard, so if it was my money I’d pass.

Interestngly, many of these tubes are available from eBay sellers in Ukraine, too.

Just to chime in as someone who has spent probably close to the cost of the amp in tubes on this thing. The final configuration I settled on is the following:

Input: https://www.tubedepot.com/products/amperex-7308-usa-gold-pin

Output: https://www.vivatubes.com/true-nos-soviet-russia-gold-grid-6n6p-6h6p-ecc99-vacuum-tube/ (unfortunately now out of stock) I was able to work with them on eBay to get a matched octet.

Tried lots of different combinations, most have their own enjoyable quality, but this was the "cleanest" sound. Detailed and controlled, which can have pros and cons to certain music genres, but as mentioned here before I actually primary game on this setup. I found separation in footsteps etc in FPS's to be best with this tube configuration and that same separation and detail is present in music as well. Lots of the other 6N1P's I tried for the input tubes were actually more "fun" to listen to music with.
