Greetings, Head-Fi. I am currently debating whether to purchase a Clip+ or a Clip Zip for portable use. As far as I know, they are virtually identical in sound quality, price (by a couple of dollars for any given capacity), and features, although the Zip has a larger screen.
 
I plan on Rockboxing whichever I decide on, so I don't really care about the merits of their original firmwares. I also don't care for color or album art. Previous threads have been pretty vague on exactly what reasons to prefer one over the other. Are there any?

The Zip can play AAC, has a color screen. Those are the only differences between the two AFAIK.

Which player would you recommend if I don't own any AAC files and don't really care for color? Is the extra screen space on the Zip worth it?

If you don't play AAC files, or use any album art, then I don't see why you'd need the Zip.

If you're going to Rockbox it, they will all play everything anyway. You're paying for the screen and hopefully a bit more reliability in a zip. Should be about the same but with most good manufacturers, every generation tends to address the most common issues.
