In relation to the Siyah kernel and it's sound improvements - the headphone amp and stereo expansion settings definitely help (I wonder does the stereo expansion compensate for the stereo crosstalk?), the bass enhancement settings sound truly awful, and the DAC direct and 128x sampling don't make any difference to my ear. I was interested to see that TotallydubbedHD thought exactly the same. Still worth using in the wait until Voodoo, which should have working 128x sampling and DAC direct modes and sound even better, which will be AWESOME.

What does DAC direct mode mean? Is it about outputting digital audio to an external DAC? Or tweaking the internal DAC's settings (like the 128x sampling you mentioned).
 
Or is it something like this? (found by googling, though I don't really understand it...yet)

I have a U.S. (Canadian, same thing) model SIII and I have a SQ problem. It only appears at very low volumes but my quieter music sounds like it's passed through a kazoo. This disappears when I turn up the volume. I don't think it's the "crackle" issue I've seen frequently described on other forums, because it occurs continuously when I output audio through the headphone jack, not only when the screen is off. This problem occurs across apps and file formats, including my flawless FLAC collection. I've played the same files back on an iPod touch (320 kbp mp3s) and the iPod has no problems. I'm really, really hoping this isn't a hardware issue, because I've already exchanged 2 S IIIs at the shop I bought it from due to screen issues and the manager's visibly pissed at me for cutting into his margins :p

This .wav was recorded from a video played back using the stock video player on the SIII on the lowest volume setting (this problem persists on other player applications):

Thanks for the link, Knights, do you know if that solution also works for the US version? It was posted under the forum for the international version of the S III, and I don't want to brick my phone :p

EDIT: Looks like I can't use this fix :frowning2: It requires flashing Siyah Kernel, which is only available for the I9300 (international) version. Also, I'm not sure if the problem I was describing is the same as the one the link tries to fix. Thanks anyway though!

I also have a Canadian SGH-I747 and at low volume levels, I hear obvious noise/hiss, though not quite what you seem to be getting.

The iphone 4S has the nicest sounding DAC i have heard aside from he 4G ipod touch and the ipad3 which are also awesome

I have a S3 and use Neutron Music Player, 64bit version. I have mainly FLAC files up to 24bit 96Khz and Shure SE535's. I don't hear any crackling or hisses. I do hear some crackling on quite sections using Poweramp and Playerpro. Maybe they can't handle the FLAC files as well as Neutron. Only problem with Neutron is the UI is crap

Which version of the player did they review ? their seems to be a few different models.
