RS1, or RS2, Which Would You Discontinue?

I have owned both the RS-2 and RS-1, and, in my view, I would discontinue both. In retrospect, and in light of what currently exists (I owned the RSs several years ago), I think $495 and $695 is pretty steep for a headphone. I would not purchase either today, and, in fact, just yesterday I purchased a Grado headphone for the first time in years--and I choose the SR325i. The K601, K701, HD600, HD650, and SR325i present a host of attractive options, and all may be had for well below $495.

"Where's the discontinue none choice!!"

The "none" choice was not offered, because it is the easy answer. Often business and marketing are about difficult choices. I wanted to see if faced with this kind of choice what the "headfi" membership would choose. So far the "straw" poll has been very illuminating and insighful . . . . . Keep up the comments & voting!

One further thought...If it were my decision, I would drop the RS-1 and RS-2, and GS-1000, too, and market a single "Reference" headphone at the $449 price point. After all, and if one takes the term seriously and properly, there can be only one true "Reference" in a line.

The RS1 and the GS1000 are much different sounding than just an HD600 - HD650 difference. Very different headphones.

That seems kinda silly. To be perfectly honest, the HD650 does not satisfy me at all as a "Reference" headphone. Nor does the K701. The 325i or MS2i definitely don't do the trick. There's a definite need for an RS1 and GS1k, especially given the level of performance that they are capable of.

Hence, you've proved my point. If the 600 and 650 can co-exist, then surely the rs-1 and gs-1000.

Sennheiser's lineup is funny to me at that end. The differences between higher end Grados (325, RS2, RS1, GS1k) are way more pronounced than they are in the Sennheiser lineup.

Can I vote to discontinue the physical coloration of the HD600? I want that option.

Yeah, but people forget that the 600 and 650 are only in the $200+ and $300+ bracket. The grados are twice the cost. The leap from rs-2 to rs-1 is $200 and another $200 to the GS-1000.

Btw, love your avatar.

Edit: $300 more from RS-1 to GS-1000

This is a good point, and had crossed my mind when I posted the poll. The difference being that Sennheiser is a much larger company and can support the offering of many more models. Grado being a smaller "boutique" company may not find it practical to have so many models in the market place?

Just a thought.

Actually, it's $300 between the RS1 and the GS1k. But I guess you're right.

I found the HD650 more of a reference than the RS1. I'm in the camp that the RS1 is overpriced at $600 new, much less $700. The RS2 is a better deal. Discontinue the RS1
