They are so intoxicating they should be regulated by the government

I had a run-in with the RS-1's way back when i began in head-fi, i opted for the MSPro's instead. I was looking for the nuetral king of all headphones and my path seemed to take me further away from the Reference Series. Now, that i have reached that pinnicle, i need something to keep it that way.

The sweet aint ever as sweet without the sour.

Lol! There is nothing sour about the RS1!

I understand your quest. I totally understand your desire for the RS1. Be sure to drop me a PM with your impressions and all that once you get accustomed to them.

It's hilarious how close our tastes seem. We always end up with the same or very similar gear and impressions.

I owned the RS-1s and HP-1 for a couple years. I didn't have a lot of respect for the RS-1 until I heard them teamed up with an SDS-XLR. Very good combination but unfortunately that's been the only setup I heard that I loved them in. The HP-1's are great headphones, first-rate all the way. They have flaws but all of them can be worked around and you can get some outstanding sound out of them...

Not sure when, but the photo on the Grado Labs website indicates that they at least exist

I am 100% going to get those new Grados! Tho I have a feeling they won't upend either the HP2 or the RS1, seeing as how they're Streetstyles

I've heard the balanced RS-1 in the Golden Maestro, and it was Good.

Compared to the HP2 in my Melos, that setup had amazingly smooth highs, on par with the HP2, but as you know the RS-1 extends a bit higher up there, so the end result was...better highs? Could be!

In the bass dept. the RS-1 is indeed deeper than the HP2, that's just a John Grado thang. And the mids are just as sweet, with a bit o colored honey compared to the HP2.

Stock RS-1 is more active/fun/punchy/grainy than the HP2, and modded they can get ALMOST to reference-level par with the HP2. Pair it with the right rig, and they surpass the HP2 in extension and I could very well live the rest of my life with that signature. Of course no one would blame me for trading in the Melos and the HP2 for a balanced pair of RS-1 (balanced with Joe Grado High Bandwidth Cable I noticed) and Singlepower's flagship amp!

What!? But you would be comparing a heavily modded XLR RS-1 to a Single-ended un-modded HP-2. That sounds VERY biased Jahn! LOL! j/king

I would love to hear a modded HP-2 next to a modded RS-1 in Mikhails Bling-Master SDS.

I am a proud owner of the HP-2's and RS-1's. I can honestly tell you that they both make me very very happy. I think my HP-2's get a bit more listening time than the RS-1's just because I prefer a more neutral sound. However, when it comes to listening to rock - the RS-1's are always on.

Both are world class phones IMHO. I think everyone should get these.

Hehe, I didn't say the RS-1 didn't have to work for its keep!
wink.gif
Of course imho the HP2 kicks the RS-1's butt, but it IS theoretically possible to have both (if you have the cashola!) and enjoy them on equal footing

That said, if I ever got the RS-1, it would be a situational can.
