Rosson Audio Design RAD-0 - Alex's Beautiful New Baby

Hello. Im considering purchasing the Rad-0. Heres a bit of backstory and wondering if you think the Rad-0 could be a good selection. I recently purchased a Verite Open and a Feliks Echo. This was replacing a HE560 v2 and a JDS EL Amp II(so entry levelish stuff). I listen to alot of Electronic music (about 90%). Non club type electronic. The rest is 70-80s rock, pop and some 80-90s hip hop. I wasnt happy with the VO and the Echo. It was too smoothing and alot of the grit, haze, hiss, added to the electronic was too smooth, soft and sometime barely audible. SO i decided to ditch the Echo cause i thought tubes just were not a good match for what i listen too. I purchased a GSX mini. And things are better but i still dont love how the VO makes electronic sound. Bass and fullness is great but i feel like all the small details are still smoothed out in a way. Im consider trying to either return or sell the VO and possibly purshase the RAD-0's. Any thoughts about RAD-0 and electronic and rock, new wave 80s. I saw a few other mention rock sounded great. Also the Verites feel a touch too big for my head.
I have the Rosson Audio RAD-0 (number 22 of the first 100 made) plus other headphones. I also have four headphone amplifiers: Monolith Cavalli Liquid Platinum, LehmannAudio Linear SE, HeadAmp GS-X mini, and Violectric V280. The best of these four amplifiers in driving the RAD-0s is the GS-X mini, to my ears. The dynamic range, linear response, wide imaging, instantaneous transients, and ambience (hall sound) are all there! If you can, use the XLR output with an XLR-terminated cable for the RAD-0s. Your ears / brain will thank you.

Yes i have a topping D90. Im going full balanced/xlr to the VO currenlty and plan to run the possible replacement pair, maybe Rad-0, the same

Honestly I don’t know if I like them more it’s just they get more hea time. With my 1266 I have to sit still look forward to listen to them where the RAD I can get comfortable. The RAD has really clear sound good bass midrange and treble.

@Bonddam would you do a comparison between VC, RAD 0 and 1266? Just saying what do you like more of each headphone (and comfort, so important for me. I have read that it's so bad in 1266). Thanks. You have a dreaming collection of HPs...

Get it out of the the 1266 is best sounding but the weirdest one. I like all 3 tonality resolution dynamics. My rating goes 1266 rad then VC. Easiest one to wear is VC as 1266 you gotta stay still and rad is tight. I’m not bothered by weight.
1266 has best soundstage and sounds spacious. The other two are more in your face. That’s good thing about owning all these headphones as I never get bored.

Hey gang been reviewing the the Rad-0 and absolutely digging it so far. Curious if you all have a favorite amp/Dac to run with it? Sorry if this question has already been asked!

MR
Favourite amplifier for RAD-0 is the HeadAmp GS-X mini; second favourite is Monolith / Cavalli Liquid Platinum. Use balanced / XLR outputs on each.

Very cool 😎 I have the monolith coming to me for review next week so I will spend some time with that one. So far ran it with the Pendant briefly, the LYR 3, iFi Pro ICAN, and A90.

It might the amp is rated at 32 ohms and up. Only problem I’ve ran into is sensitivity levels below 96db. One example is HEkse can’t raise volume past 12 or distortion sets in.
