Rogue Audio RH-5 Impression Thread

Hi, I'm currently using matched pair of Brimar CV 4003 and am very happy with them. Clean, no noise, nice black background, non-fatiguing, great top end and good tight bass. The Brimars are very good with the Rogue HP amp. That's just my opinion of course. Regards.
That's the beautiful thing of the RH-5 it seems to sound great with a wide variety of tubes. To me that speaks to the excellent design.

Curious which version of Brimar's? I have several different versions, and the CV4034 is the king, but they all sound great. Mids and especially vocals is where they shine.
I just ordered these , thanks for the advice :L3000:

I'm going to sit and think on this to determine if I got something wrong here but I didn't really change anything but the tubes. I'll report back after I work on this a bit.

Seems to be working now, I think I forgot about how the RH-5 resets when you pull all the plugs including in my case RCA, XLR, and AC. In order for me to slide it out, undo the lid and swap tubes, and then reconnect everything.

I am a member of the rogue RH-5 club. But a more recent buyer purchasing mine in February . I finally got around to upgrading the tubes. I ordered the gold lion private stock tubes from upscale audio. They were not cheap but I changed out the tubes today and after just two hours the Rogue is sounding even more amazing. I had already changed the fuse upgrading to a hifi tuning supreme fuse which made a noticeable difference on its own. I also upgraded my set up with the conditioned outlet strip that PS audio makes and in addition purchased the shunyata plug in power conditioner . All these changes have wrought a substantial improvement in the performance of the Rogue Rh-5 .

I am using the akg 712 s phones which are lower in impedance and are not the easiest phones to drive though they are a bit easier than the older akg 701s which where even tougher to drive. The rogue handled both of them with aplomb. I upgraded the stock cable on my akg 712s with moon audios silver dragon headphone cable terminated with the furutech carbon fiber headphone plug.

Nice to have another member of the club active on the thread! If you like the new production Gold Lions (Russian made reproductions), you should also try some of the better NOS tubes, as they are much much better at sounding lifelike/natural with better mids presence. A crowd favorite and easy rec, is the Brimar CV4034 that Tubemonger sells.

Upscale Audio also has the Brimar, a special Rogue match. https://upscaleaudio.com/collections/preamp-tubes/products/brimar-cv4003-12au7?variant=41847396240
