I saw that the Xduoo X3 can have Rockbox installed, so instead of having it on the othe X3 thread I decided to start it here.

Here are the instructions to install Rockbox:

http://xvtx.ru/rockbox/manual.htm

Edit: When renaming update-to-rockbox-xx.zip, first make sure that you are able to view hidden files for your OS(Mac: http://ianlunn.co.uk/articles/quickly-showhide-hidden-files-mac-os-x-mavericks/ and PC: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-7 ) then rename it to update, it would then be update.zip

Here are the Rockbox files that are needed:

http://xvtx.ru/rockbox/download.htm

Themes - how to change or add them:

To change themes select Settings > Theme Settings > Browse Theme Files. Find one you want to try and press Play/Pause.

To add additional themes, go to http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?target=sansaclip , select what you want and download it. Unzip it and add the themename.cfg to the themes subfolder within .rockbox on your mSD card. It should now appear among the additional themes you can select.

Gapless Playback - Just turn off crossfade and the playback will be gapless.

Rockbox'd X3 not recognized by PC
- Make sure to have the button lock switch set to the locked\on position, before powering on your X3 and connecting it to your computer.

Second card slot not reading sd card - The second card must be formatted to FAT32 and have the .rockbox folder in the root directory. Windows users can use these programs to format their SD card to FAT32, go here: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm

Hopefully much of the xDuoo X3 Rockbox port and UI tweaking information will find its way here from the X3 DAP thread!

Well to start off the "pearls of wisdom" repository here, a helpful hint about formating mSD cards larger than 32Gb in FAT32.

Windows will not allow formatting in FAT32 of storage devices greater than 32Gb.  EmPathWalker posted about Ridgecrop Consultant's free guiformat.exe which allows devices like mSD's with capacities greater than 32Gb to be properly formatted in FAT32 with 4096 bytes per sector.  It's what I personally used too and is highly recommended.

And as an aside if you format in FAT32 and it is NOT 4096 bytes per sector you will get a "Update Files Not Found" warning when you try to Rockbox your xDuoo X3.

  Can anyone advise what is the method to change/add RB themes to X3?

To change themes select  Settings > Theme Settings > Browse Theme Files.  Find one you want to try and press Play/Pause.

To add additional themes, go to http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?target=sansaclip , select what you want and download it.   Unzip it and add the themename.cfg to the themes subfolder within .rockbox on your mSD card.  It should now appear among the additional themes you can select.

I'm waiting for my X3 (I think it will take about three weeks because it is delivered...).
What I hope to see in this thread:
1) in the OP to see an index for all important instructions/tips/tricks related to rockbox on X3;
for example:
2) how to install rockbox without Windows 7;
3) update stock firmware;
4) recommendations for transferring files and charge the device.
I know that many things are reported in the official X3 thread, but is hard to find in thousands posts...
Many thanks!

  In today update added option:
Code:
 Only charge on USB insert
for not to press the button every time.

Great work, amazing
etysmile.gif
, my only wish is the line out max volume automatic mode that was in the stock firmware (maintaining the volume in the headphone jack).
I detected some glitches in sound when executing some plugins (applications) , and i had one system crash loading boomshin.
Keep the amazing work in road to a perfect port.
