Rockbox for iBasso DX50 dual boot with stock firmware
Jan 12, 2015 at 6:49 PM Post #1,531 of 2,020
The same thing happened to me when installing a beta version of Rockbox. I was able to turn it off and I would hear the processor "click", but then it would turn right back on. What I did was open rkbatchtool before plugging my DX50 in. I would turn it off and right when I would hear that "click" I would hold the volume+ button and plug it in to my computer straight away. Once I did that I was able to return to stock firmware using rkbatchtool.

I've been attempting that, but it hasn't worked out for me. I just noticed though that whenever the DX50 is on it has a slight whine, and I've been using that to determine when it's on or off. Once it powers down it stay down, it doesn't turn back on like I suspected until i connect the USB or turn it on with the power button. Even then I'm still getting the check chip fail. I'm starting to think that maybe it was my unit that was starting to act wonky. I remember that before this happened that whenever I tried to transfer music to and from onboard memory it would cut off and I would need to restart it. Hopefully I can get something resolved through iBasso support.

Does the latest version of the beta Rockbox for the DX50 have a 10 band parametric EQ? If so, how effective is it? I'm not fond of the 8 band non-parametric EQ on the standard firmware. My DX50 is pretty week in the sub-bass department with my Sennheiser IE80.

Yes, a highly customizable 10 band parametric EQ. I don't know how "effective" it is, as I've never used it. If you look up the rockbox manual online, you can find info about the EQ in the sound settings section.

BTW, on another topic, I've recently installed the new faster dualboot app, and it works really well so far! Installing it was a pain, as I was on 1.50 and my DX50 has a broken up volume button, so getting to the CW section is a trick, but I did manage to get it installed. The fast boot time is great. I did notice a sort of hiccup in the sound at approximately 5 seconds in once the player started, but it seems to only exist on the track that I was playing when I first installed it - it doesn't happen anymore.

Edit: please test the newer version "patchset 3": https://www.sendspace.com/file/5xyjdj

Cholero,

How do I install this?  Right now, I've rolled my DX50 back to 100% stock firmware 1.6.0.

Can I use the instructions at p.1 of this thread?  If so, which file does the above link replace?

Sorry... still very confused about the installation procedure.

Yes, install instruction from the first page, then you will have cwm recovery where you can flash the newer dualboot app (the link should be correct).

Ok guys I need some major help. I tried the RB 1.0.0 from stock FW. When I try to revert back, I went to the stock recovery (the blue one <3e> with 3 option).. I choose wipe data/factory reset and now it stuck at the ibasso logo at the boot up (I know I was stupid

). So how do I get back to stock 1.6? They say apply update from sd card and I tried to put everything to the sd card from the zip stock 1.6 to the update.img of it but nothing works. It just showed up with  lost+found and recovery? Do I have to format the SD card and copy everything again? I can copy things to sd card by using my phone as a sd card reader. On the other hand, the DX50 doesn't show up on my computer anymore (turning it on and stuck at the logo, using the recovery mode doesn't make it show up on my computer either)

Update: OK now I share the same fate as hullo8d :frowning2:

I think I found the answer to your (and used to be mine) misery: all you need is run the program as administrator. It is so ******** stupid but it works for me. Try it for yourself. Seriously it took me 2 hours scrabling the internet for solution yet it is so damn simple :)

Another day with the experimental dualboot app. Still works great! Fast start! I'm still getting that hiccup about 5 seconds after the player starts playing after powering up. I've only tried it with mp3 files so far. I thought it was only one file that was doing it, but it turns out to be all of them so far, I just couldn't hear it in one of them due to the nature of the music. FWIW I have resume playing on startup enabled, and rewind on startup, but that's set for 10 seconds.

Thanks for the feedback and testing. I would consider to call it stable because me and some more people here had no complaints.
About the hickup: you did not have this with which version of rockbox? 1.5.0 & rockbox from sdcard (.rockbox folder)?
Maybe it helps if you change the CPU scaling governor to ondemand but we probably have to live with that. I didn't notice this because I never use the resume on start. But I do get short hickups when I do file managment activities like moving folders while the music is playing.

I got to do some more experimentation with my various settings, and the hiccup at 5 seconds after playing starts happens no matter how I have things set. The one thing I didn't experiment with is the resume playback on start, because I'm not going to change that - I use this device in the car mostly, and can't be fooling with the thing twice when starting it.

It's the same version of rockbox as I was using before, with no hiccup, the latest build that's been posted here. The standard build, not the "enhanced ui" one. The only thing that's changed is the dualboot app. And I also get short interruptions when doing file management type things - this is different, it's more like it's skipping to the next track - just a very brief skip in the sound. Not really a big deal, I can live with it. I'll try the CPU scaling thing later.

For anyone who wants to try out the almost latest version of rockbox with ArgelErx's changes (that will hopefully merged to the repository soon), I made a test build. A test build. I did not test it yet properly. There are only very minor changes for the end user so if you want to help finding bugs or if you are uncomftable when you know that there is a newer build (= if you are like me  ) please try it out but better backup your .rockbox folder. What I know that has been change is the battery curve and a bug with the freq scaling governor (interactive <-> powersave were swapped). You can also do battery statistics to a .csv file. And of course, all official rockbox changes are also included like:
2014-12-23: New XWorld plugin - Another World virtual machine
2014-11-28: Fix seeking in long ASF files

The build includes following changes:
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1029/ PS6
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1132/ PS5
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1013/ PS7
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1043/ PS10
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1074/ PS5
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1047/ PS7
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1075/ PS4

And if you want additionally the "modern ui" (power button-display off)

Edit: stable, no issues using it for a week.

Another new build for testing. I did not test it properly. It starts and playback works.

ArgelErx has been very successful by optimizing 2 new points:
  1. reorganisation of pcm-buffer fill -> in a own thread. That means that timers are not slowed down anymore! Stopwatch plugin for example can now be used, all scrolling is done in the speed it is intened. Great job! I thought that this would stay a bug forever with the ibasso port
  2. selectable sampling rate 44.1kHz/48kHz -> you can select the frequency of the resampler/native output. It makes sense if you have more 48kHz files than 44.1kHz or if you are resampling hi-res files (88.2 96 192 kHz). For the moment this will be the maximum qualitiy to get from our DX50. I would recommend to resample hi-res files to 48kHz on your computer and put them on the dx50 (probably better result than on-device resampling)

Note: There are also 3 new sound effect settings from the main branch (perceptual bass enhancement, auditory fatigue reduction, haas surround). I'm not sure if they work. When playback is active and you change the settings of them, rockbox gets restarted. you can change while player is on stop or pause. Please try it out.

The build includes following changes:

http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1047/ PS10
http://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/#/c/1075/ PS7

If something does not work, you can go back to the build from jan 17 by overwriting all files on your player from this older build.

Tested rockbox new construction.
Surround Haas, perceptual bass enhancement, reduction of auditory fatigue, work. But the first time you activate any of them, rockbox restarts and the song playing, returns to the beginning; whereas effect as before "on" now "off". If I pause and then active effect seems to work, but not the first time.
Greetings.

Are the new "Sound Effect" settings part of the main rockbox code currently? Or are they add-on patches? I haven't heard of these effects before. I see that they're not listed in the list of changes.
