RME ADI-2 DAC Thread

If all you are trying to do is split the XLR out you should be able to do it easily with 2 Y splitter cables. I used to use one, no loss in sound quality I could perceive. I now use two 6 way splitter boxes, one for each channel. Again can't hear a difference.
You don’t even have to increase the amplification (volume) to account for that?

Not that I have noticed. I have the RME at +7 and my amps get plenty loud.

If the ADI is being used as an amp, wouldn’t splitting its output analog signal take away some of its power (the amplification that we are trying to get)? Even if you’re using two different ports?

Also out of curiosity why use a separate preamp? Couldn’t you have the ADI serve as DAC and preamp and only use another amp?

I did see that and like its look. I was thinking of going bigger for ambience though.
I'm splitting the line out, not the headphone out.

Using a hardware eq as preamp but could split directly to amps. Same idea.

Can the cheaper ADI also do it (ADI-2 DAC FS)?
Looks like with the ADI-2 DAC version you can use the XLR and RCA outputs at the same time, and the unit will do +6 for XLR still, so you would not lose anything. See the block diagram on page 66 of the manual.

For the pro versions, it's a 1/4" TRS output instead of RCA.

I have done this before with my ADI-2 DAC FS. It worked well. Had RCA to an integrated amp and XLR to my Monoprice THX 887 amp. RME is my USB DAC for my PC.

What is +6 (the units)? How could I determine if that’s enough if I have the headphone impedance and sensitivity? And is that the max that’s possible if you go the route of using two outputs?

Also am I right in assuming the pricier models have higher max amplification when using two outputs? It looks like they have higher specifications in their product listing.

The +6db refers to balanced line outputs (XLR), which is louder than unbalanced (RCA). These are not headphone outputs.

The DAC FS is made for consumers. No analogue inputs. No spdif outputs.

The 2/4 has more I/O, which comes in handy in pro studio scenarios or a consumer scenario where you want to send digital to another DAC or record analogue inputs (record player, etc), for example.

when using a separate external headphone amp are you still able to use crossfeed feature?

thanks for clearing that up.
i am looking to get one of these and just watched John Darko's review,on youtube, where he stated that you could not.

If I recall correctly, it may have been true at the time of the video review but functionality subsequently changed with a later firmware update.

I thought this was also the case. You are saying that the way they originally had it set up, you could not run XLR and RCA out at the same time, but with a software update we can now? (I have the ADI-2 DAC)

The conversation you have replied to is about crossfeed!
